Mission: Created by a local Rotary Club, RotaCare Clinics have been in existence since 1989 when the first homeless patient was treated in Santa Clara, California. Since then, RotaCare has expanded to nine sites in the San Francisco/Monterey Bay Area. It is a coalition of Rotarians, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, interpreters, translators and other volunteers who provide free medical care to the medically underserved including the working poor, the migrant workers, and the homeless. RotaCare partners with hospitals, clinics, community and social service organizations and service groups to better serve the needs of the disenfranchised.
Results: In 2011, we recorded nearly 29,000 patient visits! Our 12th clinic is scheduled to open in Richmond during the Fall of 2012.
Geographic areas served: San Francisco Bay Area
Programs: RotaCare clinics are held 1-2 evenings a week. Each clinic is run like an urgent medical care clinic. All our 11 clinics treat pain and suffering, although each has a slightly different scope of service depending on the needs of the community it serves. The clinics each serve between 12 and 40 patients per clinic session. Clinic volunteers work in collaboration with a number of social service agencies and county clinics in each community to provide follow-up and long-term care. RotaCare clinics act as a point-of-entry into many social service systems.
