Programs: Roper hospital builds on a long legacy of excellence. Founded in 1829 as the first community hospital in the carolinas, downtown roper hospital today is one of the most trusted names in the lowcountry. In 2016, roper hospital contributed $20. 6 million in community benefit. These benefits included charity care, unreimbursed medicaid, and numerous sponsorships and community outreach programs (see schedule h for additional details). Overall, the hospital contributed nearly 14,000 volunteer staff hours for activities such as health fairs, career days and public programs that benefited nearly 29,000 individuals in the community. Some of the national accolades roper hospital received in 2016 include:- five out of five stars from the centers for medicare & medicaid- top 100 hospital by truven health analytics- outstanding patient experience award - earned an "a" on the spring hospital safety score from leapfrog- ranked no. 2 hospital in south carolina by u. S. News and world report- ranked among america's best 100 hospitals by healthgradesin 2016, roper hospital made advancements in its offerings to patients. Roper hospital was one of the first in south carolina to offer the watchman device, which reduces stroke risk in patients with atrial fibrillation who are unable to take blood-thinning medications for a long time. Its hyperbaric oxygen program also was re-accredited with distinction by the undersea and hyperbaric medicine society for meeting the highest standards of care and patient safety.
