Causes: Family Counseling
Mission: Our Mission is to improve the mental health of the under-served individuals and families of the Delta area by providing affordable, high-quality mental health services that respond to our communities needs, and help improve the quality of life for these individuals.
Results: As of July 2010-2011 * Over 9,000 Children, Adults, and Families have received services through Rio Vista CARE in our 27-year history (more than the population of Rio Vista!) * 782 Children, Adults, and Families through the Family Resource Center * 756 hours of Home Visiting services were provided to isolated & high risk families * 971 counseling hours were provided to "At-Risk" Youth
Programs: * Young Women's Alliance/Girl's group: an enriching mentor program that strives to build confidence, friendships, skills, and opportunities for young women in our community. * Pals: a mentoring program in which trained adult volunteers are paired with children who benefit from one-on-one interaction with a caring, dependable adult. This support helps boost the child's self-esteem and increases his or her chance of success in school. * Crisis intervention and counseling services by CARE therapists for students at D.H. White, Isleton, Riverview and Rio Vista High schools. Counseling services address such issues as academic failure, use of alcohol and other drugs, fighting and violence, grief and loss, social isolation, neglect and abuse, harmful sexual behavior, lack of parental support, eating disorders, symptoms of depression and anxiety, self-mutilation, suicidal ideation or attempts, and other challenges that diminish students' ability to learn in school. - Other Youth service programs provided are: "Flip The Script" (a substance abuse prevention group for students in grades 7-12), Career and College Club (an after school club that teaches middle school students leadership skills, financial planning and how to set and accomplish future goals), "Positive Action" (a curriculum taught to elementary school students that promotes self-esteem and prevention of substance abuse and peer conflict by teaching children how positive feelings lead to positive actions) * Professional Counseling is provided at the CARE Counseling center for children, adults, couples, and families. A variety of concerns such as grief and loss, martial and parenting programs, alcohol and drug abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, depression, anxiety and other mental health issues are addressed. All counseling services at the Center and the schools are provided by a licensed Marriage Family Therapist (MFT) or post graduate MFT Interns. * Family Resource Center (FRC): provides information and referrals to families for such needs as health insurance enrollments, utility and rental assistance, employment applications, food banks, church and recreation programs, AA and NA meetings and legal and financial assistance. Parent Support Groups are also conducted in Spanish on such topics as: parent/child literacy, nurturing with discipline, family planning, nutrition, effects of substance abuse, domestic violence. Our FRC provides assistance with: * Billing and financial planning * Obtaining medical insurance * Immigration issues * Translations needs * Employment * Resources and referrals Family Services include: * Home Visitation * Parent Education * Case Management
