Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Adoption, Children & Youth, Civil Rights, Human Services, Lesbian & Gay Rights, LGBTQ
Mission: OUR MISSION: Rainbow Families supports, educates and connects lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) families, parents and prospective parents by providing educational programs, advocacy, social events, and discussion forums. Rainbow Families is a volunteer led non-profit organization, supported by members, community sponsors, and private and public grants. OUR VISION: Rainbow Families envisions a nation where all LGBTQ+ families can legally, openly and safely live in full equality.
Results: In 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021, Rainbow Families has been named One of the Best Non-Profits by the Catalogue for Philanthropy. Minnesota Congresswoman Angie Craig has noted our accomplishments, and we have been awarded commendations two years running by Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser for our work. We have served thousands of families since our beginnings in the 1980's through our education courses, support groups, and opportunities for families to connect in safe and celebratory spaces

Geographic areas served: We are headquartered in Washington DC. In 2020, our virtual programming and other tools has expanded our outreach nationally.
Programs: *Events throughout the year such as weekend family getaways, play-dates, picnics, family dances and more. It's vital for our families to be around other families like theirs, in a safe and celebratory environment. *Education programs such as our Maybe Baby pathways to parenthood series. Forums and list serves for community members. *Facilitated support groups, at low or no cost. Together these all serve to connect, inform and serve all LGBTQ+ families, prospective parents, and allies.
