Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: The mission of Prevent A Litter Veterinary Hospital is to eliminate the killing of healthy, otherwise adoptable companion animals simply because they are surplus and cannot be placed in loving homes. PAL plans to accomplish this goal by providing high quality, affordable, and accessible spay/neuter services to the public without regard to income or geography.

Results: We have successfully performed over 100,000 spay and neuter surgeries since opening in 1999. We also offer low-cost vaccinations and testing to keep companion animals in their homes when caretakers cannot afford these services elsewhere.

Target demographics: Reduce or eliminate euthanasia of companion animals through high quality, affordable spay and neuter.

Direct beneficiaries per year: 5,300 animals, including almost 3,600 cats, almost 1,700 dogs and almost 80 rabbits.

Geographic areas served: Richmond, Virginia. But we do not have any geographic limitations.

Programs: Spay and Neuter: Spayed and neutered over 100,000 dogs, cats, and rabbits since opening in 1999. We provide vaccinations, heartworm testing and prevention, microchipping, etc. on a walk-in basis for animals who are already spayed or neutered. We provide limb amputations, growth removals, wound treatments, eye enucleations, hernia repairs, and many other life saving and life improving surgeries free or at a discount.

I have been taking pets to Prevent a Litter for a number of years. They provide excellent care for a very reasonable price. I could not afford to take in as many abandoned animals if it were not for this marvelous clinic.
