Mission: The Preemie Project seeks to provide comfort and support to critically ill infants and their families in Newborn Intensive Care Units in Iowa. We achieve our mission through the support of a devoted group of local and national volunteers.
Programs: The Preemie Project donates special hats and booties and costumes to Iowa NICUs for holidays and special events throughout the year. The Infant Bereavement Program seeks to provide solace to Iowa families that are grieving the loss of an infant. We do this by providing bereavement clothing and remembrance items. NICU Bedding Program seeks to create a comfortable, non-sterile environment for families in Iowa NICUs with donations of soft colorful sheets for the infants beds. The Family Support Program purpose to ease the financial burden associated with having a critically ill infant. Some support, like a gas card, is provided during the NICU stay. However, most support is given in the form of baby care items at the time of discharge. The Memory Box Program was created to provide a place for families to save special items in memory of their child. The Preemie Project holds periodic workshops to make the memory boxes.
