Mission: The Portland Refugee Support Group (PRSG) is dedicated to working with refugees by empowering them to become independent and effective members of society through education, psycho-social support, and life skills training. We at PRSG understand the difficulties refugees face trying to acclimate to a new life. We believe that with the right support, refugees will adjust faster and be able to survive on their own in their new homes.
Target demographics: We offer support services to refugee adults and children.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Our amazing team of volunteers helps over 290 refugees of different ethnicities throughout the Portland area & Salem, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington.
Programs: Our work focuses on four major components: (1) Adult and child education, including tutoring and assistance with school work. (2) Community education about refugees through lectures, panels, media, etc. (3) Psycho-social support through social events to form community connections and to build social capital, and also through referrals for personalized counseling and mental health care. (4) Life skills training to increase refugees’ confidence and their ability to care for themselves, their family members, and their homes.
