Mission: Provide opportunity for higher education (college) through tennis. The academy strives to create a smoke, alcohol and drug free environment leading to higher education, using tennis as an entry edge for college placement. The student body served ranges from 300-800.
Programs: The port washington tennis academy (pwta) is dedicated to young people, primarily from the ages of four through eighteen. Pwta was created in 1966 as a non-profit and non-smoking facility, to use tennis as a means of fostering educational success for children, by developing and stimulating lifelong activity that is fun, healthy, and scholastically and socially beneficial. This is accomplished by utilizing our special techniques with a wide range of instructional programs, special in-house competitions and several united states tennis association (usta) sanctioned tournaments. Additionally, our graduating high school seniors get the benefit of our many years of experience and up-to-date knowledge of schools, teams and coaches when it comes to identifying, selecting and then eventual placement at a university meeting their individual capabilities and goals. Pwta also offers an extensive variety of adult programs for all levels ranging from beginner through tournament caliber. Complimentary coffee, tea, milk, cookies, juice and bananas are always available to our members. In addition, the academy has a fully stocked tennis clothing, accessories and raquet shop available to its members. Pwta also publishes college and junior tennis magazine (www. Collegeandjuniortennis. Com), the only website of its kind that caters to junior and collegiate tennis readers, not supplemented with adult/professional news. The academy also offers full and partial scholarships to its juniors based upon financial need and/or ability.
