Causes: Education, Two-Year Colleges
Mission: To support pima community college by providing funds to the college and its students for scholarships, its departments and units and to individual members of its faculty and staff, for purposes and objectives which promote or advance the college, and carrying on activities or functions which otherwise benefit and advance the college.
Programs: Since 1977, the pima community college foundation has assisted pima community college in responding to the diverse needs of the people of pima county, arizona. Philanthropic contributions secured by the foundation for the benefit of the college support student scholarships, program enhancements and capital improvements, which in turn maximize the college's potential for providing access, success and excellence in the educational, social and cultural development of our citizens. During the year ended june 30, 2017, the foundation celebrated the following achievements: 1. Established one new scholarship: will be awarded to students of mexican descent who are involved in latin-american business and culture. 2. Established four new programs which provide funds for: stem innovation (science, technology, engineering & math) the college's small business development center which supports veterans activities ethnic, gender and transborder studies developing a curriculum and provide assistance to students pursuing a degree in early childhood professions. 3. Approved multiple mini grants to the college to provide funds detailed below: 2,500 to back to work 50+ computer training for funds to allow students over the age of 50 to receive basic computer training. 1,451 to youth science & technology curriculum to purchase an educational 3d printing bundle to align with science standards. 2,500 to ethnic, gender and transborder studies for funding a summit to inform attendees on "promoting excellence" in connection with developing a center of excellence. 2,400 to integrative education mentoring for a project to train students to assess metacognition and define coping mechanisms. 4,075 for the purchase of portable acrylic glove boxes (plexi glass hoods) for the students to use during iv practice. 3,700 to purchase a hydraulic press for forging for use by technology students to develop new or improved skills. 4,986 to purchase a laser engraver/cutter for student use to develop design and problem solving skills and display those ideas in digital format and realize them in physical form.
