Programs: District fieldstem regional model:pei specializes in providing professional learning opportunities and consultation services for educators. Using the fieldstem model, we advance science literacy and deepen student engagement by empowering educators to teach real-world science outdoors. Our resources and tools include customizable, integrated science curriculum frameworks and performance tasks that are designed by education experts and deeply rooted in the standards. From july 2016 to june 2017, pei provided 41 professional learning opportunities for 453 formal and non-formal educators with the potential to engage approximately 26,840 students.
educational activities and outreach:pei actively meets with business, science and education leaders across the state to ensure we are leveraging funding through collaboration and strategic planning. In addition to 8 to 10 such meetings monthly, pei led 4 outreach events around the state. There were over 300 participants. These events highlighted our fieldstem integrated learning model, curriculum and "parents as first teachers" migrant education. Pei also engaged a professional evaluator to provide a statewide assessment of our program work, the final report for year 2 was available the end of june 2017. This report will inform our decision making and program improvements.
research:pei published a learning brief on raising stem career awareness through cte-science partnerships. The brief outlines the learnings around the unique role a partnership between career and technical education (cte) and science teachers can play in raising students' stem career awareness.
pei provides program services related to invasive species, including using as a topic for professional development and performance tasks. Pei continues to be the state coordinators for project learning tree and project wild, national environmental education activity guides.
