Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Crime & Law, Domestic Violence, Protection Against Abuse

Mission: We are a proactive human rights movement for abused children. Our signature project is to create a network of reporting support groups ~ when one person stands to protect a child, they must know that all of us stand shoulder to shoulder with them. One-Circle is committed to creating a network of child advocates trained to report child maltreatment and support the reporting process for both mandated reporters and community members.

Phenomenal program doing deeply meaningful work to enhance the lives of children and families! I want to acknowledge and thank this program for embodying the courage, professional drive and unwavering dedication to put programs and practices in place that stems the tide of child abuse and raises the visibility of social justice for our nation’s most vulnerable population.

One Circle has a program which reaches out to so many in such diverse ways. Through Dr. Kathleen Van Antwerp's association with National University, One Circle has been the recipient of 35 computers; To date 12 of these have gone to Head Start teachers, who currently work with migrant field workers' children in Oxnard. Others went to Transition House which takes homeless families with children off the street, and No More Bruises group home, who provide a home for abused children. In addition, One Circle provides an annual Educational Scholarship to a student who is majoring in Education. Their website provides parenting videos, which are both helpful and interesting. The dedication and determination of this organization is both widespread and focussed, reaching out in many directions, but always focussed on the needs of children

I have been a part of One Circle, Inc. for 14 years. As an educator, I know first hand the importance of educating the public about child abuse and how to report it. Unfortunately, I have had to report child abuse many times over my career as a teacher. One Circle, Inc. is always there to support my actions and give advice. I have witnessed many adults, who were abused as children, come forth at One Circle events to share their very personal experiences in an effort to help educate others and break the viscious cycle of child abuse. This organization is exceptional in its advocacy for the welfare of all children and is very deserving of recognition. One Circle, Inc. sheds light on a social issue that is still swept under the rug far too often.

When I met the co-founder of One Circle, whom I now call Dr. K, I was awed with her experience and knowledge in the field of child behavior. (Where was she when my children were young and Dr. Spock was the only expert parenting resource we had?) We have come a long way and know so much more today that we owe it to our children and to all our families to have a knowledge based perspective in communicating and understanding the children in our life. The time to bring the focus on the staggering statistics of child abuse is long overdue and I congratulate the work One Circle does to that end.
