Mission: The North Fork Animal Welfare League is a 501(c)3 not for profit in contract with the Town of Southold to provide animal control. We run the Town Animal Shelter as one of the only no kill municipal shelters in the country. We spay and neuter all animals at ten weeks old, prior to adoption, making absolutely sure that we are not contributing to the companion animal overpopulation problem. We have a community wide humane education program, a senior pet therapy program for our nursing homes and low cost spay/neuter program. We run a food kitchen for animals from our shelter. We provide doghouses and cathouses for needy community members. We participate in off-site adoptions in order to find homes for our animals. We provide medical care for needy animals in our community. All animals placed through our shelter are fully vaccinated, tested, wormed, and altered prior to adoption.
Programs: Animal welfare to promote neutering & spaying. Sheltering and caring for stray and abandoned animals. Promote adoption of animals to responsible people.
