Mission: Conserve and restore wild atlantic salmon populations throughout its range in the north atlantic region.
Programs: Nasf is working together with the downeast salmon federation, the atlantic salmon federation, the us fish and wildlife service and other organizations to equip a hatchery and raise juvenile salmon for stocking in the east machias river of maine. Our goal is to develop and demonstrate a stocking strategy which will help restore atlantic salmon populations in us rivers.
nasf has commercial agreements with commercial fishing organizations in greenland and the faroes islands whereby the organizations agree to limit their catch of atlantic salmon in exchange for compensation and help in developing fish products and pursuits other than those targeting atlantic salmon.
as part of its efforts to conserve and restore populations of wild atlantic salmon in the north atlantic region, nasf made a grant to a conservation organization headquartered in iceland which shares its mission of preserving wild atlantic salmon and is involved in the same activities promoting this mission.
