Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Group Homes, Human Services

Mission: We are empowering a group of Peruvian children who have been orphaned, abandoned, and abused to break the cycle of poverty in their families forever by providing them with a supportive home and the opportunity to pursue higher education.

Results: Niños del Sol is a children’s home in Peru where a group of children without parents — all survivors of trauma, abuse and neglect — are being raised as a family. NdS is dedicated to nurturing the children with life skills, open hearts, yoga/wellness practices, organic food from local farms and their own garden, and lots of love. Our program is unique in that our Niños are supported through University and trade academies, in order to break the cycle of poverty in their families and create leaders who will nurture the next generation of Peruvian children. Niños del Sol is an independent, secular charity and depends on donations for its survival. We are supported by a U.S. volunteer board that is a 501c3 charity.

My husband and I had the distinct honor and pleasure to meet many of the niños along with Viviana and Avishai during our recent trip to Peru. They arranged for us to stay at an absolutely magical place on the outskirts of Urubamba, Hostal Samana Wasi. And being in heart of the Sacred Valley was awesome. But most impressive is the incredible work being done at Niños del Sol. The niños prepared breakfast for us, took us on a tour of their garden, and welcomed us with smiles and love. Viviana and Avishai are committed to helping all of them transition to adulthood. We had personal experience seeing their bright future when one of the niños took us on a tour of the ruins of Ollantaytambo. We hope to visit again.

Since I knew the story of mama Kia, Casa de Milagros has become one of the foundations of my preference to whom I help with my contribution as best I can with my business.
Mama Kia, an American citizen, decided to help Peruvian children by dedicating all their love to them. I, being a Peruvian citizen, have even more the obligation to help the children of my country. Since I joined Los niños del Sol, with my business, I feel super happy helping.
Everyone who wants to contribute to this foundation can rest assured that they will feel a deep joy in their hearts.
Happiness is in giving.

I have a soft spot for kids; especially when I hear that they have been abused or mistreated. It is wonderful to support a charity that gives these kids a safe and loving home where they can feel secure and looked after. The communication on facebook and newsletters is wonderful as it shows how the kids are working hard to not only help with family chores but also to change their lives through education. The love that they share with each other is fantastic and seeing them have fun as kids is rewarding.

I encourage you to make a monthly donation as this provides predictable income which is 100% used to provide the basic needs of this large family and overcome daily financial short falls. The transparency and disclosure through ongoing social media demonstrates that all donations are put to good use. There is no better feeling then giving a HAND UP to someone who uses that generosity to better themselves and change their life.

I have been supporting Niños del Sol in Peru for 3 or 4 years now. I had the opportunity in 2017 to visit the Children's´s home. I was so happy to see a genuinely happy group of Children who were well looked after and prospering in their education. They were even happier when I took them to the market and treated them all to a pair of shoes, trainers or soccer boots! Lots of smiling faces

My connection to Ninos Del Sol is primarily as a monthly donor. I became a donor because I have a friend that works closely with Ninos and visits yearly and I choose to support the childrens future through this wonderful group of people. I hope to visit one day myself and bring larger supplies with me. I am and will continue to be a sustaining monthly donor.

Some friends visited the Ninos on a Trekking for Kids trip. We learned about the work Avishai was doing and at that time, that the home was in a bit of a financial crisis. Our family felt compelled to help as much as we could. We have been supporting the Ninos with a monthly donation for a few years now. As I understand it, monthly donations are critical because they allow the home to make plans around a regular budget. It is great to see the activities of this home and to learn about the wonderful accomplishments of the children. I would love to be able to visit this amazing place with my own children, hopefully someday.

Avishai and Viviana have created an environment where the children of Ninos Del Sol can grow, thrive, and flourish. What they have done is amazing. With almost no resources, they are raising a houseful of children in a positive, supportive, rich, and nurturing environment. The children and not just surviving, they are learning so much. It is a wonder to see. Thank you to all of the volunteers and supporters of Ninos Del Sol for your little miracle in Peru!

My connection to Ninos Del Sol is primarily as a donor. I became a donor because I believe in what Vivianna and Aviahai are doing to support the children to have lead happy, healthy lives with all the opportunities they deserve. Avishai ( whom I have known for over 30 years ) and Vivianna ( who I met a few years ago) are both amazing people who have the love, skill and strong commitment to parent the children. Please consider becoming a sustaining donor.

Dear community,

I lived at Niños del sol for one month in between my junior and senior of college in the United States. I had just finished a very difficult academic year, an intense study period for the admission test for medical school, and a condensed academic program in Lima. I was completely wiped out from so much time in the classroom and books.

When I got to Niños, I knew I would be helping as a volunteer, but did not know what project yet. I met Avishai and Viviana, along with all of the kids, and spent the next month working on constructing a greenhouse (photos below) to provide more sustainable and efficient healthy nutrition for everyone at Niños. We spent time outside under the sun, we cooked meals together, I practiced my Spanish and the kids practiced their English. We laughed, went camping, took evening walks, and shared stories about everything from school to talking about environmental conservation and living by one's values. It was one of the most rejuvenating times of my life and I felt so at home within a few days of being there. I can only imagine how much of a home this feels like to everyone living there, and how it is a place of peace and healing.

Niños is an incredible organization that has so much work to be done, and deserves all of the support that is possible. It's leaders are committed, diligent, and loving. If you ever have the chance to be in the Sacred Valley in Peru, you won't regret spending time at Niños!

I first encountered Niños Del Sol when I was traveling in Peru in 2013. I immediately fell in love with the spirit of the place. The children have been through a lot, but they've also experienced a lot of love, and it shows. The kids are radiant, and they treat each other like loving siblings.

Watching the kids grow up and head off to college is so beautiful — especially when you consider that many of them might have been illiterate and had very little opportunity without Ninos Del Sol.

It's a tough job to steer these kids through adolescence and into adulthood. They are all survivors of great trauma, and they need a little extra patience and support sometimes. But Viviana and Avishai, the Director and Co-Director, are more than up to the task.

I've gradually become more and more involved with this organization, and at this point I'm madly in love with the kids and the program, heavily involved as President of the U.S. board, and I've spent most of the last 6 months in Peru with the kids and the staff. I'm more impressed every day.

I was privileged to have been able to spend a month as volunteer with the Niños del Sol in August of 2017 and I came away from that experience with much affection for the kids, tremendous respect and admiration for all involved in running the organization, and the hope to return and to support them as I am able.

I am not a young college student, so when I arrived as a volunteer I felt a bit like a kid away at camp for the first time. But, within a few hours I had been fed a delicious organic meal , was taken on a bike ride and then escorted to the market by the youngest who was going to make a carrot cake for everyone . Needles to say , my trepidations quickly vanished .

Soon, with the eyes of a parent, I noted all that was being done right at this home: there are rules, there is affectionate guidance, there is encouragement to discover and realize one’s potential, there is an abundance of nourishing food and activities, and there is love. Lots of love: for each other (kids who have moved out coming home weekends to be with family) , love for their country, it’s history and traditions, love for their pets, love for Avishai and Viviana and all those that help run their home, and, love for KALE, yes KALE!!!

If you can support this organization, please do, it is wonderfully worthy!
