Mission: Setting the highest possible public health standard with education, research and outreach regarding pediculosis prevention and the safest possible treatment of children with head lice.
Programs: Web education and outreach serving approximately 90,000 visitors a month for educational information on head lice screening, detection, prevention and manual removal (combing), enabling parents to protect children from the misuse and abuse of pesticides marketed as treatment(s) for those with head lice.
ongoing research - continue to run reporting registry to collect data for research on lice and scabies treatment failures and adverse events. This includes research on reports from those who think they have lice or scabies but have other problems that only mimic them. Research on school lice policy at the local, state and national level to report on what influences decision-making for parents and health professionals, education on lice and what is done proactively to avoid risky chemical/pesticide treatments and the abundance of misinformation via the media.
