Causes: Science & Technology, Technology
Mission: The mission of the Museum of Science Fiction is to create a center of gravity where art and science are powered by imagination. Science fiction is the story of humanity: who we were, who we are, and who we dream to be. The Museum will present this story through displays, interactivity, and programs in ways that excite, educate, entertain, and create a new generation of dreamers.
Results: Our inaugural convention, Escape Velocity, drew over 2500 attendees, to National Harbor for a micro futuristic world’s fair to promote STEAM education within the context of science fiction using the fun of comic cons and fascination of science and engineering festivals.
Programs: The future of travel, is a four month exhibition, comprimised of several compelling exhibits and displays about aerospace technology and the future of air and space travel. This exhibit shows visitors the once science fiction idea of travel, which became today's travel, and what is the future of travel.
ios mobile app. This app gives mobile users a change to experience and interact with the future of travel exhibit. The app also offers comprehensive science fiction trivia to its users. Support for android devices, additional languages and an additional 10,000-question database are still in the works.
dc public schools pilot program. The museum partnered with dc public schools to bring a range of stem programs to local children using science fiction an an educational tool. This program is designed to inspire students, fuel their curiosities, and develop creative problem solving skills through storytelling, writing, illustration techniques, nasa educational materials and numerous project-based learning science activities.
