Mission: The montana wildlife federation is a statewide conservation organization dedicated to protecting wildlife, wildlife habitat, and public access for outdoor recreation.
Programs: Habitat conservation: through outreach and public education, mwf helped ensure that wildlife habitat was protected for the benefit of fish and wildlife, as well as hunters and anglers. Our successes included:-vigorously fighting against efforts to transfer/sell off public lands. -supporting protection of backcountry lands to provide wildlife habitat and hunting opportunity. -supporting efforts to protect clean water in our rivers, lakes and streams for fish, wildlife, and people. -promoting locally-developed collaborative efforts to improve national forest management.
wildlife protection: mwf informed hunters, anglers and other conservationists about the importance of scientific management and conservation of montana's fish and wildlife resources. By appearing before the wildlife commission, legislative committees and other decision-makers, we helped increase protection for elk, deer, and other big game, as well as threatened and endangered species. Our outreach and education also raised public awareness of the need to prevent montana's fish and wildlife from becoming endangered.
outdoor access: mwf promoted greater access for hunting, fishing, and other outdoor recreation and educated people about attacks on legal road use, stream access, and other legal public rights. We also worked to improve relations between hunters and private landowners, including expansion of state incentive programs for private landowners.
