Mission: Mobile Meals of Tucson, Inc. was founded September 24, 1970, due to a need to provide special diets for the frail, elderly and disabled in their homes. Initially, an experimental program was funded with federal seed money. When funds were no longer available, the community recognized the value of this service to clients.
The mission of Mobile Meals is to provide special diets for the homebound, frail, elderly and disabled of Tucson. Specifically, this includes two meals a day (one hot and one cold) five days a week. The purpose is to help these people to maintain and restore their health, increase and maintain their independence, avoid institutionalization in a hospital or nursing home, and hasten recuperation during a convalescent period. Primarily private donors provide funding.
Programs: Mobile Meals of Tucson delivers 29 routes within the Tucson metropolitan area.
