Mission: Minnesota Tech for Success creates digital equity for students by partnering with schools and educational organizations to provide technology access, engaging STEM programming, and IT workforce development in underserved communities.
Results: Minnesota Tech for Success has placed over 100,000 computers in our underserved communities and have recycled over 5.89 million pounds of e-waste since our mission began in 1997. We have trained over 1,750 students through our CORE:IT workforce development program since it began in 2010, giving community members valuable training to continue their education or pursue employment in the tech field. Target demographics: underserved students and communities
Direct beneficiaries per year: 7,400 students by providing computers for distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Geographic areas served: Minneapolis and the Greater Twin Cities Area
Programs: IT Certification Training - offering a curriculum to build foundational knowledge and skills for professional readiness for adults with little to no tech experience who want to continue their education or pursue employment in the IT field. Our programs are free to qualified participants and made possible by grants through the MN WIOA and DEED. Youth IT Certification Training - for high school students who want to improve their academic achievement or economic stability. This training offers free curriculum to explore and prepare for a future job in IT. Internships for program graduates - This paid internship gives graduates the opportunity to work in a variety of technical roles at MTFS from sorting and recycling, to testing and refurbishing, and tech support. In addition to hands-on experience, all interns work on developing soft skills including resume building, college and job applications, interview preparation, and more. Tech Explorations - providing both equipment and curriculum to middle and high school students to ignite interest in the possibilities of technology. Tech Connect Program - for those in need of a computer for educational or professional purposes but cannot afford the cost of one, we offer the opportunity to apply to receive a computer for distance learning or for aiding in active searching and application for employment. Computers for Classrooms - For schools and educational organizations that want to provide more students with digitally empowered learning, MTFS provides low-cost technology solutions with quality, warrantied computer equipment.
