Causes: Physical Fitness & Community Recreational Facilities, Sports, Swimming & Other Water Recreation
Mission: Mill Town Rowing, located in Everett, Washington - the heart of Snohomish County - is committed to fostering the sport of rowing within our community and beyond. We believe in the power of teamwork, the importance of discipline, and the benefits of physical fitness. Rowing is a historically exclusionary and cost-prohibitive sport. The Pacific Northwest has a rich rowing history, but the Snohomish County community we serve faces socioeconomic challenges unlike the Seattle area’s demographic, just 25 miles to the south. Our leadership celebrates the US Paralympic and Olympic Committee guidelines adopted by our National Governing Body, USRowing. We fully embrace their efforts to expand programs which provide equitable access, accommodate the neurodiverse, and offer a more inclusive, safe environment. At Mill Town Rowing, we are proud to have veterans and LGBTQ+ individuals among our teammates and as our leadership. Our members range from 12 to 82 years old, with our youngest member currently subsidized, participating for free. We are committed to making rowing accessible to all and aim to begin partially subsidizing rower fees by the second half of 2025 and expanding our reach into local middle and high schools. At Mill Town Rowing, we believe rowing is not just a sport, but a way of life. It brings joy, fulfillment, and a sense of community. Rowing isn't just about racing - it's a whole vibe. It's a joy ride, a family, and a ticket to the coolest club in town!
Target demographics: both youth (Juniors) and adults (Masters) athletes of all skill levels and ages.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Grew from inception of 20 members to nearly 50, and were able to subsidize fees for two athletes.
Geographic areas served: Snohomish County Washington (Everett) and surrounding communities.
Programs: At Mill Town Rowing, we offer a variety of health and fitness programs, with a strong focus on competitive rowing. We also provide opportunities for recreational rowing to ensure everyone can enjoy the sport at their own pace. In 2024, we successfully launched a Masters (adult) program, expanding our reach and impact. Additionally, we welcomed two Coxswains into our club, subsidizing their fees—one of whom is a Junior. This initiative was implemented ahead of schedule, as these subsidies were originally planned for 2025.
