Programs: Milford regional medical center serves the healthcare needs of the residents of 20-plus communities in central massachusetts, a population now approaching 250,000. Guided by its mission to provide exceptional healthcare services to the community with dignity, compassion and respect, mrmc strives to be responsive to diverse constituencies - individuals and families of all ages, employees and employers of large and small businesses, physicians and other healthcare providers, our school systems, our local and state officials and safety personnel, churches, community organizations, our insurers and payers and our own employees and volunteers. As a non-profit hospital, we acknowledge the needs of the underserved, especially, low-income and minority populations. A full-service community and regional teaching hospital, milford regional is a 145-bed acute care facility. There are 300 primary care and specialty physicians on the medical staff, our physicians are skilled in the most advanced procedures and technology, and provide personalized patient care in a warm and caring environment. Mrmc is an affiliate of umass memorial as a teaching hospital. It also has partnerships boston children's hospital, dana farber cancer institute, brigham and women's hospital, and brigham and women's physician organization. In addition to providing basic acute care services (medical, surgical, emergency medicine, family-centered obstetrics and pediatrics)mrmc has eight state-of-the-art operating suites, consolidated surgical services (including admitting and pre-admission testing), and a medical/surgical floor with advanced patient monitoring capabilities. Milford regional recorded 13,629 inpatient discharges/observation stays and 5,891 day surgeries in fy 2017. In fy 2017, milford regional partnered with tri-county medical associates (now milford regional physician group) to open three urgent care centers in hopkinton, northbridge and milford. Strategically positioned throughout our service area, patients are now able to receive same-day treatment for non-emergent illness or injury without an appointment. In addition, milford regional laboratory and radiology services are also available at each urgent care center for necessary lab tests and x-rays. This initiative has been designed to make care more accessible where and when our patients need it. Milford regional and the american red cross celebrated the opening of a new blood donation center at the hospital in 2017. Situated off the new imaging center's waiting room, the dedicated blood donation center allows milford regional to run regularly scheduled blood drives to address the need for all blood types in our community. In fy 2017, milford regional partnered with umass memorial medical center to implement an eicu program to provide an additional layer of support to critically ill and injured patients at milford regional. Milford regional has six intensivists who provide icu coverage from 7am to 7pm every day of the year. Now, at the end of that 12-hour shift, milford regional intensivists update the umass memorial eicu team on every patient and their approved plan of care. If an emergency arises between 7pm and 7am, the umass memorial eicu team can view the patient in real-time via a video camera that exists in the patient's room. The eicu system functions similarly to facetime, not only allowing the intensivists to monitor the patient, but also providing a video link so that milford regional icu nurses can see and discuss treatment with the doctors via video. In 2017, milford regional was the first in the region to offer two, new breakthrough technologies for detecting prostate cancers that may have been previously missed using standard ultrasound-guided biopsies. This targeted, leading-edge approach to the detection and management of prostate cancer uses multiparametric mri and 3d mri/ultrasound fusion biopsy. Now, using the revolutionary artemis 3d imaging and navigation system, milford regional physicians are able to better identify and more accurately biopsy suspicious prostate cancer areas. Brigham and women's neurosurgery of milford was created in 2017, in partnership with milford regional, to bring excellence in neurosurgery to milford regional patients. In addition to growing services, milford regional was recognized with several awards and recognitions. Milford regional physician group continues to excel in quality. Mrpg regularly monitors its performance on quality measures, which were designed by the national committee for quality assurance (ncqa) as a gauge for clinical performance. The physician group's results on these measures ranks among the highest in the partners healthcare network. Five remaining adult primary care sites were recognized this year by ncqa as patient centered medical homes (pcmh): bellingham medical associates, franklin primary care, milford internal medicine, primary care physicians and mendon internal medicine. Primary care offices are evaluated on an extensive set of criteria in order to obtain this certification. Mrpg was named to the harvard pilgrim honor roll in 2017. In 2017, mrpg was rated highly by patients in the massachusetts health quality partners (mhqp) annual patient experience survey. According to the results, 94% of adult patients and 99% of pediatric patients report that they would be willing to recommend their mrpg physician to family and friends, a true testament to the positive experiences they have at mrpg sites. The national accreditation program for breast centers (napbc), a quality program of the american college of surgeons (acs), granted three-year accreditation to milford regional's breast center in 2017. The accreditation is only given to those centers that have committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. The commission on cancer (coc), a quality program of the american college of surgeons (acs) has granted three-year accreditation with commendation to the cancer program at milford regional. To earn voluntary coc accreditation, a cancer program must meet or exceed the coc quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a survey process and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care. Three-year accreditation with commendation is only awarded to a facility that exceeds standard requirements at the time of its triennial survey. The clinical laboratory, including blood bank and respiratory, were awarded an accreditation by the commission on laboratory accreditation of the college of american pathologists (cap). In addition, the blood bank was awarded accreditation by the american association of blood banks (aabb). Milford regional's cardiac rehabilitation program was certified by the american association of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation (aacvpr) in 2017. This certification recognizes milford regional for its commitment to improving the quality of life by enhancing standards of care. Cardiac rehabilitation programs are designed to help people with cardiovascular problems (e. G. , heart attacks, coronary artery bypass graft surgery) recover faster and improve their quality of life. Milford regional medical center received an "a" for patient safety in both the spring and fall 2017 reviews by the leapfrog group, a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety and transparency in the u. S. Healthcare system. The medical center was one of 823 hospitals nationwide to receive an "a" for its commitment to reducing errors, infections and accidents that can harm patients, ranking it among the safest hospitals in the united states. Milford regional was pleased to receive a high performing ranking for treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (copd) from u. S. News & world report in 2017. Milford regional was named a 2017 most wired hospital, a recognition that has been given to only nine hospitals in massachusetts for excellence in information technology. As a most wired hospital, milford regional is recognized for its robust wireless network for providers and clinical staff, use of assistive technologies to ensure positive patient identification, electronic prescribing, electronic transmission of summary of care records for transition in care, redundancies that support patient care in the event of a disaster and strong security safeguards to protect patient health information.
