Mission: Miles for cystic fibrosis conducts community outreach and fundraising activities, primarily involving running related events, to raise awareness of cystic fibrosis and to raise funds to benefit the cystic fibrosis community. In addition, our organization promotes the benefits of exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle, and provides opportunities for children and adults to participate in athletic events, with a primary focus on individuals living with cystic fibrosis.
Programs: Team 65roses, our name for our awareness-raising and fundraising runners, participated in the publix georgia marathon, half-marathon, and 5k, with some runners representing miles for cystic fibrosis in other events as well. Team rosebuds, our "kids helping kids with cf" team, also participated in this and two other events. Nearly 100 individual runners (adults and children) participated in events on our behalf, with many raising money through peer-to-peer solicitations of donations. In addition, we brought over 200 volunteers to the georgia marathon, and over 350 volunteers to other running events, raising awareness for cystic fibrosis through our signs, shirts, and pamphlets. As we promoted our teams and events, we also promoted the benefits of exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle, particularly for adults and children with cystic fibrosis. Our teams raised 58,689 through donations they solicited, which was distributed to help cf families struggling with the high cost of caring for the disease and to the cf foundation to support research toward a cure.
the big peach sizzler 10k, an annual labor day road race in atlanta, is hosted by and benefits miles for cystic fibrosis. We provide a first- class, certified 6. 2 mile race course with police protection at every intersection, water stations along the course, event t-shirts, awards for top finishers, and a finish line expo of refreshments and services. The 2014 race included over 1800 runners and over 200 volunteers, providing a tremendous opportunity to increase awareness of and support for the cystic fibrosis community. The 2014 race netted a profit of 20,922, providing a source of income towards programmatic and administrative costs and allowing 100% of our peer-to-peer fundraising donations to be distributed to benefit the cf community.
miles for cystic fibrosis distributed 58,689 in grants to other organizations that benefit the cf community. 29,131 was given to the cystic fibrosis reaching out foundation. Our grant was used to help with transportation to medical facilities, nutritional supplements, medical insurance premiums and co-pays, rent, utilities, and other emergency needs for cystic fibrosis patients and their families. 29,558 was given to the cystic fibrosis foundation to support research and development for new drugs to fight the disease, improve the quality of life for those with cf, and ultimately to find a cure.
