Causes: Food, Food Programs
Mission: To provide free professional colunary training, job placement and healthy culturally relevant foods in under-resourced communities and to positively impact health in those communities. The melting pot foundation is committed to offering healthy, accessible cuisine to neighborhood residents at our neighborhood eatery and bakery. The meltin pot foundation educates and inspires participants to excel in the food-service industry. The melting pot foundation offers services that support our program participants as they cultivate and work toward their dreams.
Programs: We completed our pilot program teams and placed all completed pilot team participants in jobs. We hired our chef educator, our executive chef, two social workers, our hospitality manager, and our baker and onboarded new teams of participants every 10 weeks beginning in june 2017. We also updated, completed and deployed our official written curriculum. In june 2017, melting pot foundation began training participants in its 10,000 square foot facility at 69 belmont avenue in brownsville, brooklyn, the brownsville community culinary center. In august 2017, melting pot foundation opened the brownsville community culinary center cafe and bakery, its nonprofit eatery open to the public and operated by culinary training program participants as part of their training.
