Programs: A trips and travel committee planned, arranged and managed a variety of trips in the fiscal year. The trips are planned to be self-liquidating. As in most years, there are deposits made for future trips planned for the next fiscal year.

shops the residents association includes three commercial activities: a gift shop, thrift shop and the craft room. The gift shop sells mostly to residents and it handles a limited line of clothing articles, miscellaneous sundries and gift items including greeting cards. The thrift shop sells clothing and furniture and accessories. All of the articles for sale are donated by residents or residents' families. Excess clothing, furniture and kitchen goods are regularly donated to local charities. The main customer base for the thrift shops is the neighboring community. The craft room sells crafts made by residents. Customers include residents, as well as members of neighboring communities.

programs of entertainment the program committee arranges for weekly programs from september through june. The entertainment consists of programs by professional musicians or other professional entertainers. These programs are televised on our in-house network and are available to residents in the health center and in the residences of those who wish to view the performance at home. Funding for this activity comes from an annual budget approved and funded by the residents.

form 990 part iii, line 4d: other program expenses community-oriented activities: (expenses 10,544) these activities, involving about 125 people, impact the resident community in different ways through 14 different groups. Examples include the chorus, 25 - 30 people, with expenses of 2,289 including cost of director, accompanist and music. Another small group designs and produces a monthly newsletter and activity calendar, expense for this fiscal year was 2,911. Smaller activities include putting up seasonal decorations in the public areas, running a small repair activity in the woodshop and maintaining a resident flower garden near the health center. In addition, this category includes expense for administrative support and piano tuning. Educational activities: (expenses 10,638) the largest of the five activities having educational content is one with a current events flavor. It brings in philadelphia news correspondents, writers and educators for presentations and discussions on world events, politics and other topical issues. Attendance in the 20+ sessions per year ranges from 40 to 50 residents and expenses were provided from the general budget and the remainder from charges levied for some programs. Another group is involved in maintaining and overseeing the operation of fiction and non-fiction libraries which contain about 8,000 books with a budget of 1,600. A monthly bible study group (budget 2,000) hosts leaders from local religious organizations. Social activities: (expenses 9,082) these activities are aimed at providing increased opportunities for social interactions among residents. Included are activities such as billards, bridge, square dancing and table tennis, each involving 15-25 people, and special events, like a kentucky derby party and new year's eve party, with attendance in the range of 100-150 people. Funding is from the general budget with additional charges levied for special events.
