I was sent by Urgent Care to the ER yesterday with serious abdominal pain. From the minute I walked through the ER door, I was met with nothing but compassion and concern. The admissions staff was welcoming and efficient. I was evaluated within 30 minutes by interns, nurses, and doctors. Blood work was done, medical histories established, and I was given a clear explanation of my treatment plan. I would need X-rays and a CT scan to determine the cause of the pain. I thought it would be hours before I was taken to radiology, but it was relatively soon. In addition, the results were reported quickly and a diagnosis was established. Everyone on every staff seemed to be very happy in their roles. They worked well together and were so cheerful and encouraging. (Admissions, nursing staff, radiology, doctors, interns, etc). Someone attended to me every 15 minutes or so, even if it was just to update me on what was happening. Of course, I was told to follow up with my own doctor, but since I couldn't get an appointment for a few weeks, I called ER after-care and was given very specific, easy-to-follow instructions. I was invited to call back anytime, with any questions. I will never go anywhere else!

I went in for severe pain and days without sleep. When they found out I had bipolar, they immediately treated me like I was manic even though I told them I was just exhausted. Nobody would listen to me after that. There was an NP who told me the ER was not a place to get a diagnosis and I need a better GP. So I left AMA. I found out later after complaining that the treatment plan was a sedative and a referral to psych. Then someone else gets my complaint and they thanked me for bringing the matter to their attention, but my chart says the standard of care was met. Like my chart was really going to describe how they treated me and discriminated against my condition.

I was in extreme pain. In two long weeks that were filled with pain, I went to a local hospital emergency room twice, a walk-in clinic and even seeing an orthopedist. No one took my situation seriously. All they wanted to do was give me pain pills. Cynthia was the only person to care enough to find out why I was in pain. If it wasn’t for Cynthia Price taking my situation seriously, I would not be here today. Cynthia immediately got me into Mather Hospital for an MRI.; I was admitted and the next day had a four-hour MRI that showed I had contracted a serious staff infection that was in my blood, upper spine and back.
Dr. Steven Leon performed the first of two surgeries on Sunday, January 13, 2019, and removed part of the infection in my spine. The second surgery was on Wednesday, January 16, 2019. Dr. Leon removed a disc and replaced it with Titanium. My life was in his hands.
I was in ICU for a week before being moved to a step-down room. All total I was in the hospital for 19 days. The doctors, nurses, and aides were extremely caring. The dietitian Dee made sure all my meals were prepared correctly. We have two hospitals that are closer to where we live, however, I would rather travel to Mather and get the excellent care the staff provides.

Received great care at Mather Hospital. From the Registrar, to the Lab for blood work, to the Imaging Department for xrays, to the Emergency Department, my family and I had great experiences there and have benefited from the services of Mather Hospital for over 45 years. Early February, 2019, I had back surgery at Mather Hospital. Prior to my surgery, I was treated twice by the Mather Emergency Department and once by the Mather Back & Neck Pain Center. It was the emergent referral from the Back & Neck Pain Center for an MRI that helped me get the help I needed just in time. I found myself in surgery a few days later and the experience at Mather was wonderful! Every person that I came into contact with was compassionate, knowledgeable, and professional. The doctors, nurses, radiology technicians, and anesthesiologists made me feel very comfortable. The hospital is extremely clean and my room was new and beautiful. Even after being discharged, the staff continued to check up on me. I was very impressed with the treatment I had at Mather and would highly recommended them to anyone in need of medical attention! Thanks to them, I am back on my feet and feeling great!

When I was experiencing stomach pain foe 3 days ,I knew it was important for me to get to an emergency room. Even through I was anxious and nervous, the staff of doctors, nurses and aides at Mather's E.R. were able to clam and assure me I would be well taken care of.
When I was admitted to the 2nd floor, the staff made sure I was comfortable and everyone was equally as caring. All the medical professionals consistently informed me of every detail of my care and how was progressing. From emergency room triage to admission to discharge,I have nothing but praise for all those caring professionals who took such good care of me.

I have had numerous spinal procedures performed by Dr. Durkin and his staff from Long Island Pain Institute, at the Weiss Pain Management Center. Everyone from checking me in all the way through to helping me into the car after the procedure always treat my family and I with the utmost level of respect and professionalism. The Weiss Center staff members are amazing; particularly the nursing staff. Due to my self imposed"frequent flyer " title, I have gotten to know quite a few of the nurses pretty well, and vice versa. But since my first encounter, you can feel the warmth, genuine compassion, and an internal passion for who they help and what they do.

On the morning of March 13, 2018, we arrived at the Ambulatory Surgery Center for my spinal surgery, in the middle of a snowstorm! We were immediately welcomed by the nursing staff and they made us feel at home. Everyone was beyond professional and kind and they also tried to ease my fears a bit while they prepped me for the surgery. The surgeon braved the storm and then went over the entire procedure with me and my husband, answering any and all questions that we may have had. The procedure went well and the nurses were amazing throughout. I was made to feel like I was the only patient that they had that morning, despite the fact that I knew I was not. Everyone who was part of my team that morning was great and I would whole heartedly recommend the hospital and the ASU to anyone who needs to have outpatient surgery!

I bring my son (two years old) to Mather's Phlebotomy department to draw blood when his primary care doctor gives him a prescription. The staff is wonderful and makes the experience as positive as it could be. When they see the patient is a a child, they work together to make the process go quickly. Different members of the team chip in, helping to distract him by talking with him and getting him to laugh, so he is not so focused on the pain of the needle and the procedure goes smoothly. Their skill, understanding and compassion is appreciated by this father of two!

From pre-op to post-op care I felt safe. I was getting spinal surgery on my neck, which was extremely scary for me prior to going in. From my doctor at the neck and back center, Dr. BenEliyahu (who advocated for e and got me and knew exactly what type of treatment I needed), to my surgeon Dr. Sathi and all the staff at Mather, I had an experience I will never forget. Such compassion, attention to detail, empathy, and professionalism went into everything they all did. We all too often in this busy world forget general compassion and to smile. This was not forgotten from these wonderful people and it was not forgotten. Not only did they save function in my arm and neck, they left such a positive impact on me.

Ten years ago I retired from an executive position in Miami and returned to my roots and family here on Long Island. One of the first priorities is to select your health care providers and John T. Mather Memorial Hospital has successfully filled that need. My primary doctor and others all are part of the Mather medical team. Each year I have participated in the Lung Cancer Screening Program after quitting smoking; the Program is excellent and is under the supervision of Eileen Zaotis, Program Nurse Navigator. Ms. Zaotis and all other administrative and medical staff have displayed their commitment and expertise to meet all my needs. I feel very fortunate to have Mather Memorial in our community and knowing we can count on excellent medical care. My personal thanks to all and for your continued success.

We've been traveling to Kenya once annually since 2005 to visit The Jerusha Mwiraria Hope Children's Home in Meru. That's when "our" orphanage first opened its doors. Occasionally, I would return home from a visit with a food or water-borne illness that needed medical treatment, but my husband Larry prided himself on the fact that he seemed to have a "cast iron stomach". Midway through this year's September visit, however, Larry began to experience "Delhi belly", but would not admit there was anything wrong and refused to take the antibiotic we usually carry with us for emergencies. He claimed that he was already taking too many medications ( mostly for age-related conditions requiring treatment), but now including Malarone, an anti-malaria drug required for visitors to Kenya. Each day, Larry's physical condition seemed to deteriorate further as the frequency of bathroom visits and the need for rest breaks and naps increased. When it finally came time to head back to Nairobi for our return flight to NY, the 5-hour drive to the airport took more of a toll on Larry. Beginning at midnight, our 23 hours of travel homeward via two separate flights through two different airports -and then the 2 hour drive from JFK to our home in Port Jefferson- were particularly debilitating for Larry. Finally, upon a mid- afternoon arrival at our house, we discussed the need for Larry to see our doctor. He agreed to call for an appointment the next morning. Meanwhile, he was obviously growing weaker and weaker, had no appetite yet had a distended, gassy belly, and spent the hours at home- when not in the bathroom- trying in vain to find comfortable sleep. In the morning, we made an appointment with Dr. Dhillon, our primary doctor. In the afternoon, the good doctor saw Larry, did a preliminary check of his condition, pronounced him extremely dehydrated, and then advised me to drive Larry directly to Mather's ER. The check-in was fairly swift, and upon hearing that Larry's condition began in Kenya, the ER professionals placed Larry in a secluded section of the ER. A sign announcing that the patient within the cubicle might have a contagious condition was placed on the curtain, and Larry was made to wear a mask covering his mouth and nose. The medical testing began almost immediately- blood tests, a CAT scan, and the like- and an IV was set up to hydrate the patient, while machines constantly monitored his condition. It was determined early on that Larry would have to be admitted to the hospital and that his stay there would probably last several days. The doctor and nursing staff consistently treated Larry professionally and with great care- despite his growing impatience with the wait for an available room. Just after 10 PM on Tuesday, Larry was moved to the Telemetry Unit, 3rd floor East, where, for the next 6 days, he would undergo much more testing-day and night- to determine the cause of his illness and find a cure. In addition to being seen by Dr. Dhillon daily, Larry was visited by several tropical medicine doctors, other types of specialists, CNA's, RN's, social workers, church representatives offering prayers, etc. Unfortunately, Larry's first few days' meals consisted mainly of rice, toast, bananas, and apple sauce. Test results began to come in and eventually showed that Larry's illness was not due to the consumption of tainted food or water. Before we left for Kenya, Larry's oncologist had him start taking a new chemo medication. Other than causing increased fatigue, the medication seemed to have no other uncomfortable side effects. Two days before leaving for Kenya, Larry began to take his daily dose of Malarone. While he was in the hospital, Larry's doctors suspended both medications. Eventually, the doctors concluded that Larry's condition was probably caused by clashing medications, both of which have among stated side effects diarrhea and extreme fatigue. When he first entered the ER, Larry was, we were told, on the verge of kidney failure. Due to the constant replenishing of Larry's levels of hydration, potassium, and other lost essential minerals, Larry, over time, began to feel stronger. His kidney function returned to near-normal levels. Slowly, his appetite returned to the point where he could begin at meal times to enjoy Mather's well-reputed cuisine. As he began to feel stronger, Larry requested visits by physical therapists. They cheerfully and carefully assisted him in safely getting in and out of bed, walking short distances with his IV pole in tow, and eventually enabling him to take longer walks through the halls of 3 East. On Sunday, Dr. Dhillon and the tropical medicine doctors agreed that Larry was ready to be discharged. (Saturday night, at the doctors' direction, Larry resumed taking his Malarone so that he could eventually complete the required dosage of this medication). Upon returning home after his stay at Mather, both Larry and I agreed that we are, indeed, lucky to have available to us this wonderful hospital, with its caring, competent doctors and staff- and that we are also grateful that what could have been a medical tragedy turned out to be a real learning experience for us.

I was scheduled for a routine mammogram this past June at the Fortunato Breast Center. I had never gone there before. The day before I noticed a lump on my breast. I came for my scheduled appointment the following day and the Nurse's Assistant at the Breast Center recommended I request a prescription for a sonogram in addition to my mammogram. My doctor faxed over the prescription. Shortly after, I had my tests done and was advised to have a biopsy. Everything moved quickly. I was diagnosed with breast cancer within one week of feeling the lump. Dr. Price delivered the news in a calm and reassuring manner. I knew I was in good hands. The Nurse Navigator at the Breast Center scheduled an oncology appointment and a surgical consult which all happened within the same week I was diagnosed. Additionally, I had a Breast MRI at the end of that week. I was so impressed with the quick action of the team at the Breast Center. They do an outstanding job of quickly diagnosing and caring for the breast cancer patient. I am so fortunate I switched to Fortunato to have my routine mammogram. If I hadn't, my breast cancer would not have been detected at Zwanger Pesiri where I went annually, because I was never told I needed a sonogram, apparently I needed one coupled with my mammograms annually. Thank you for saving me from a much worse prognosis. Awesome job Mather Hospital!

Our mother always said it was so important to have a good hospital close to home. It was a factor she considered when moving to Miller Place 30 years ago and happened to be where she peacefully passed this summer.

It was not only necessary to be nearby, but to be looked after by wonderful medical professionals who became a major part of our community of support. During a five year cancer battle, our visits to Mather became more frequent for both outpatient and inpatient services. Upon arriving, we were always greeted warmly by valet, security or ER receptionists. It made us feel welcome to be at a place that we did not necessarily want to be in, yet surely knew we would be in good hands at. Our repeat experiences with a number of Mather’s teams, such as phlebotomist, hospitalists and residents, nurses and aides, radiologists, interventional radiologists, pain management and palliative care specialists, made our mom’s last few months as comfortable as possible. The facility’s convenience was matched by its caliber. We could not be more grateful for the help we received during an extremely difficult time. Our appreciation continues as we now commemorate our mother with the Giving Department’s assistance. Thank you to all we have encountered and built a rapport with.

When you are faced with a smile everything is possible. And that is what you see when you walk through the doors of John T. Mather Memorial Hospital. Whether it be the volunteer greeting you at the front desk, the security guard protecting you, the medical staff healing you, or the administrative staff rounding on the floors, they all present you with a smile.

I have been a John T. Mather Memorial Hospital supporter for more than 45 years. The amazing professionals at Mather have saved my life more than once. Not only is Mather a great medical institution, the philanthropic spirit which emulates from its culture makes it an asset to the community and all it serves.

They saved me from drunk drivers, car accidents, legionella disease, fractured femurs and many more surgical and medical situations. I bless Mather for all it has given me and the community it so magnificently serves. And most of all I am thankful that I met my husband Earle F. Betts who served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors at Mather for 30 years.

I have been supporting John T. Mather Hospital since 2010 with the creation of the Port Jefferson Yacht Club's Village Cup Regatta. This year, my mother went through a series of end of life illnesses. This was just a year after the passing of my father who went through a similar series of illnesses. Our experience at Mather was incredible, particularly in comparison to Stony Brook Hospital where my father was. There was a warmth and level of personal attention not normally seen at hospitals. It just reinforced my belief in Mather and my wiliness to support them financially.

This review is to express my thanks to the ER team including nurses, Doctors and administrative staff that treated my 101 year old grandmother last week. After chocking on her lunch, a piece of food was lodged in my grandmothers throat. Unable to swallow it we call the paramedics and they got her to the Mather ER very quickly. To say the least, all were very attentive, and were able to calm her down. At 101, this can be a scary situation. Within 3 hours she went from having lunch to the ER, had tests and an endoscopy and home again.

She was very thankful as am I and my entire family to the care she received.

On May 26, 2017 I went into Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, NY for knee surgery. From the moment I got there I was truly impressed. It was early...6:00 A.M. and the pre-op nurse told me I was her first patient of the day. I asked her what I had won. While I didn't "win" anything tangible, what I did win was care from a first rate staff of medical professionals. Any surgery comes with a degree of anxiety. The nurses and assistants at Mather helped allay any fears. Their care, compassion and simple conversations made me feel as comfortable and at ease as anyone could want. As I walked into the operating room, one of the nurses commented..."right this way...table for one..no waiting". That bit of humor brought a human touch to the moment. On top of which it made one feel that the nurse knew exactly what the patient was feeling. The post-op nurses and staff were equally accommodating. When I felt nauseous, the nurse was right on it and immediately got me something to combat it before I got sick. The entire experience couldn't have gone any better. The nurses and others involved that morning were the best of the best and a true credit to their profession and the hospital. Truly impressive.

On Sunday night into Monday morning - July 2-3 - I thought I might have been in the process of dying. I was in that much pain. I never had a heart attack before, but as the pain continued to radiate into my lungs I felt like maybe that's what was happening.

I was rushed to the ER by a family member, and from the very instant I walked in the doors to the time I was released to go home I felt I was in good hands. I really cannot say enough good things about all of the different people who helped take care of me over that crazy thirty-six hour stretch. ... There was no wait at all in the ER, I was taken and given an EKG immediately by a very friendly and calming woman, the doctor or NP questioning me was great ... the nurse who kept watch over me Sunday night into Monday morning (I think her name was Val, but I can't be sure on that) was amazing ... I was in bad shape and she took good care of me as best she could given my circumstances. The blood sample taker Pierre (I believe was his name) in the ER room was also tremendous and having to deal with me at my worst ... I felt bad for them actually over how often they had to stick me to find my veins (I was very dehydrated and in a lot of pain, probably not as cooperative as a result - I mostly just remembered a lot of stomach pain). But everyone in that ER was friendly and attentive ... The lady who gave me the ultra sound (I think her name was Bea) was great. Loved her. ... The lady who gave me my cat scan couldn't have been more friendly. ... And then all of the nurses and nurse assistants who took care of me before and after my emergency gall bladder removal (which was the root cause of the problem) in Room 2-217 were top notch. From Denise, to Tall Tom, to Jessica, to Ginger, to Jennifer (Flanagan I think, who kept a good eye on me all night), and the NA who helped me go to the bathroom & stood by my side when I want for my first stroll post-surgery whose name I do not recall unfortunately, and Felicia.

Again, just not enough good things can be said for them all. A+ across the board. ... The same for the nurse who kept an eye on me in recovery just before I was given the room - I was 3/4ths unconscious under her care, but I do recall her helping me. Even the young lady who wheeled me out the door upon discharge was incredibly friendly and helpful.

And then, of course, there was the anesthesiologist team and the surgical team, all of whom were amazing. I wish I can recall all of their names. I'm also not sure who it was from Dr. Ahmad's team that worked on me - It believe it may have been Dr. Arellano or another surgeon whose name I, unfortunately, do not recall, but they did an amazing job. I went into the ER Sunday night thinking there could be a possibility I don't ever leave (just based on the symptoms I seemed to be suffering from and not knowing what was causing them at the time) to being well enough after surgery to be back home Tuesday afternoon to enjoy the 4th of July holiday with my friends & family.

The only critical thing I can say is that the experience ruined me for all other hospital experiences I may have in the future because I'm not likely to ever have as good a one with another hospital and the people watching over me again.

On December 1st I was rushed to Mather Hospital with an incarcerated umbilical hernia. Upon entering the ER I was greeted by some of the most friendly and knowledgeable staff from the Doctor to the aides. The staff in the ER, recovery room and on my floor 2east did an impeccable job and I would not go to another hospital for anything

I visited the Fortunato Breast Center at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital for testing. The doctors at Fortunato read only one kind of film- breast imaging is the only imaging done at the Center- and this specialization means you are in the best and most experienced hands. The staff is friendly and the facility is modern and attractive. From warm gown before to warm blanket after, Fortunato makes necessary health testing a little less uncomfortable. Highly recommended.

Had my last surgery at Mather Hospital and was very pleased with the Service and staff at the Hospital. My surgery went well and I was out in two days. I would highly recommend Mather Hospital to my friends and Family.
I will be scheduling my next surgery at this hospital and expect it to go as smoothly as my last one.

I have been a patient at JT Mather hospital twice in the last 3 years. Once for pneumonia and most recently for congestive heart failure.

Both times I was on 3E – Telemetry Unit. I came in through the ER and was attended to promptly and with great care and attention to my general well-being. The ER nurses & staff were professional, yet personable. They kept me and my wife abreast of all the tests and procedures that were going to be performed. When I met with a doctor, he had already made himself familiar with my records and condition. He spoke plainly and kept me from panicing (especially when I was admitted with CHF).

I can’t speak highly enough about the Telemetry Unit nurses, and one thing I noticed every night – when it came time to taking vitals, the staff member came in quietly, respectfully and was considerate enough to make sure he/she did not disturb me unduly. Also the noise level at night was minimal, except for the times when there was a life and death situation. During those occasions, I could hear the nurses, doctors, et al, as they worked heroically to do all they could for the patient.

My wife and I live on the south shore (Sayville) and we consider JT Mather our ‘local’ hospital. God forbid either my wife or I need an ambulance in the future – I don’t know how we can get them to bring us to Mather … my wife is pretty persuasive and if anyone can make that happen, she can.

Thank you for this opportunity for me to give this wonderful hospital and ‘Atta Boy’ .

When my husband Rich was hospitalized with pneumonia in 2014, he spent over a week in Mather Hospital. The outstanding care began in the ER, where he was tended to as if he was their only patient. We were kept informed of all the tests being scheduled and the nurses answered all our questions and kept us updated regarding his condition. The doctor spoke to us plainly, clearly and did not rush thru this examination of Richard.
He was admitted to the Telemetry Unit and was there during subsequent stays at the hospital.
The nurses and staff on this Unit are outstanding. They not only strive to do their professional best, they each seem to have such high personal expectations as it relates to their positions as caregivers that you can't help but feel and see their sincere desire to get their patients well & discharged.
Just recently Rich was hospitalized with congestive heart failure. Once again we had an identical experience in the ER and once again he was on 3E Telemetry.
I know I run the risk of sounding like a broken record, but this hospital is like no other I have ever experienced, and I know hospitals ... my Mother had Alzheimer's and while she was in a Nursing Home she seemed to be at the hospital monthly. We eventually moved her to our home, where the care was exceptional and the hospital visits non-existent.
Now here's the best part: because of the outstanding personnel and pride of ownership mentality everyone seems to exhibit, I became a Volunteer in January 2016. I embrace the culture that flows naturally throughout JT Mather and hope I impact everyone I encounter in my day as positively as I have had the pleasure of receiving from these wonderful professionals.

I have been a patient here on 12 occasions between 2012 and today.
I was here during Hurricane Sandy.
I have experienced above and beyond Nursing on every occasion no matter the obstacles that the Staff had to overcome to deliver those services.
I have truly experienced HealthCARE as an environment supported by the administration in both signage endorsing care as the priority and the staff truly seems happy working here.
I cannot overstate how grateful I am that for me this is my local hospital and have every confidence that I am getting competent and compassionate care in the Patient, Doctor, Nursing TEAM that I am a part of each time I am here.

All of the staff, from the security officer at the door, to the nurses and physicians were wonderful. They were all very kind, caring and responsive to my concerns. I hope I don't ever need to go back to the hospital... but if I do, I would definitely choose Mather as my hospital.

On Sunday July 10 I was riding my bicycle when I was run over by a pickup truck. The ambulance took me to Mather Hospital and set me up in the emergency room under the care of a nurse named Teri. Everyone at the hospital was terrific but Teri was really exceptional. She went so far above and beyond what any reasonable patient could expect that in my view she set an entirely new standard of caring. For example, after a few minutes in the ER Teri asked if I wanted to call anyone. I said yes but told her that I didn't have my cell phone with me. She immediately gave me hers but then I reminded her that like most people, I don't memorize phone numbers anymore so I still couldn't call anyone. For the next hour or so, every spare moment she had she spent looking up names that I gave her. Of course there is no Directory Assistance for cell numbers so that failed. Then she went looking for someone who might be able to get me onto Facebook so I could post something, and again, that failed. I told her that my biggest concern is that I had only expected to be away from home a short time and had left all of my doors unlocked. She said that no one from the hospital could go and lock the doors because of the possible liabilities (makes perfect sense!) so she finally asked if I knew the address of anyone nearby. I gave her the one address I knew which is not far from the hospital and with that Teri disappeared. When she finally came back 30 minutes later she explained that she had taken a break, driven to the address and placed a note on the front door explaining who she was, what happened to me, and asked m friend to call her. No more than 15 minutes after she got back, m friend called her and took care of everything for me.

That's a little thing, right? Going to a home and leaving a note seems like a little thing but it isn't. First, the person has to care a lot to do something like that. Teri had to give up her break to run out and do a complete stranger a favor like that. And that "little thing" made it so much easier for me to relax. From there all of my friends were notified and everything went well. Teri didn't have to do that and I suspect most ER nurses wouldn't even think of it. Who can blame them - their jobs are tough enough. But I just get the idea that Teri stood there thinking "what can I do to help this guy out?" and then she acted in a way that just delighted me.

Because of her, Mather has definitely won my loyalty and patronage. I really hope it is years before I need them again, but when the EMT asks if I have a preferred hospital, I will say "Yes - Mather." All because of the kindness of Teri.

I recently visited Mather hospital emergency room with an eye injury. Upon entering I was met with friendly and professional staff. They did their best to keep me informed and comfortable every step of the way. My ER nurse Laurie was attentive and always kept me abreast of what would be happening next. The PA I saw that day, Ms. Craig, was particularly a highlight. She Let me know exactly what she was doing and what she was thinking. Well done folks, I would not hesitate to visit Mather hospital again should I have the need.

Mather Memorial Hospital provides medical expertise and compassionate care for the patient and their families. The ER staff were quick and adept in accurately assessing my mother's condition upon arrival by ambulance. They saved my mother's life before my eyes - a shocking and overwhelming experience. Working like a fine-tuned orchestra, the medical staff worked together toward the same life-saving goal. The ICU staff provided the necessary follow-up expertise, enabling her full recovery all the while providing her the utmost respect and compassion during her vulnerable state. From the medical staff saving her life to making critical recovery decisions vital to her survival to the upbeat staff who would come check in on her and us to the security guards making sure we got where we needed to go throughout her stay to the ICU nurse coordinator making a bed for my father to stay by my mother's side, Mather Hospital far exceeds the definition of quality care.

John T. Mather Memorial Hospital synonymous with "smile". You probably think that is an unusual way to view a hospital but at Mather it is perfect. Just walk down the hall and see how many smiles you count. If your there for an outpatient procedure, ambulatory surgery or a hospital stay, Mather Hospital's employees are special. They make all their patients comfortable "like family". The sweetness of a smile does not compromise the integrity of what Mather stands for, but rather strengthens it. Mather is a superb hospital. Mather is community. Mather is family, giving all that come through its doors the very best medical care.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to share my positive experience at the Fortunato Breast Health Center at Mather Hospital, Port Jefferson, NY. I underwent mammography and breast ultrasound this summer. From the second I walked in the door until I walked out after my appointment, I was greeted, checked-in, and handled with kindness, respect, professionalism, and nothing but positive attitude from all involved. This includes (but is not limited to) reception, imaging assistant, mammography technician, radiologist, as well as reception at time of checking out. The facilities functioning and staff should be emulated by other health care facilities. Thanks to all involved. I wanted to ensure I gave this feedback as it is hard to find caring, intelligent, and thorough people anywhere nowadays; I therefore appreciate and commend this Mather Hospital facility.

A Happy Patient

In 2009 my fiance had contracted a rare form of breast cancer"inflammatory" breast cancer" and was being treated at Mather Hospital. Before that I had never seen such a knowledgeable and caring staff as I did at Mather. They were always there if I had any questions and if we needed anything at all. Unfortunately she did not make it, but you can't always happy ending. The whole staff at Mather made my experience and my fiances a lot more bearable with what we were going through. After her passing I started doing a lot of fundraising for the breast cancer center at Mather. Between that and the communication I still have with the staff at Mather I am in better place. If the other hospitals were half as caring as Mather this world would be a better place.

WBAB Radio works with hundreds of not for profit organizations every year, but few are as involved as Mather Hospital. The energy and enthusiasm that the Mather fundraising staff bring to each and every event makes it a pleasure to be a ongoing partner with them. Never do they sit idly by and expect to be the beneficiary without being a part of the effort. Their creativity when it comes to fundraising is second to none. They know that the public is inundated with requests for donations and that there is less money available than ever and that's where breaking free of the pack comes into play. They are always looking for innovative and fun ways to fund raise and that sets them apart. WBAB appreciates the partnership and friendship that we've created and look forward to many more years of success!

Fourteen years ago, September of 2000 I became a "Survivor" of breast cancer. The news that I was diagnosed with breast cancer was very shocking as I was a woman who had gone for my annual checkups for years. My experience began with my first trip to JT Mather Breast Center where it was confirmed that my cancer had spread to several lymph nodes and I would need chemotherapy and radiation. I "survived" my surgeries, my tests and all my treatments due to the caring, loving warm kindness of the doctors and staff at JT Mather. I have continued with my follow ups at the breast center and will do so for as long as I have to! I have also recommended at least 10 people to the breast center, all of home also, continue to visit when the need calls. My experience with this kind wonderful community has kept me healthy, safe and happy! It is my honor to say that JT Mather is a part of my life!

I was a patient in the surgical unit for five days in August, 2014, and I have been telling all my friends about the wonderful care I received at Mather Memorial. The friendly, caring attitude of all the nurses and support staff--starting with the "Joint Coordinator," Mary Ann Goodman, to the nurses and finally even the cleaning staff I interacted with--contributed, I am sure, to my speedy recovery from an ankle replacement (performed by Dr. John Yu) as well as how soon I stopped needing any pain medication--three days post surgery.

I am well aware that how corporations are run is largely determined by the individual at the top, and to him I take off my hat. He surely has instilled in everyone who works at Mather that a job to be done includes not only the task at hand, but the attitude with which it is done. Kudos and deep personal thanks to everyone at Mather Memorial Hospital. --Lorraine Dusky, Sag Harbor, NY
