Programs: Mary’s Shelter continues to provide support to so many in a multitude of ways. First, our maternity housing program provides encouragement and support, in a loving environment, where both mom and baby can thrive. Second, our Community Outreach programs provide young mothers and babies with essential needs such as diapers, wipes, formula and clothing. These programs follow a new mother and child from pregnancy and childbirth to age three. The systematic and gradual spacing of visits is designed to provide assistance while steadily fostering independence. The YESS (youth) program offers temporary housing for homeless, unaccompanied kids ages 14 to 17, and an after-school drop-in-center for at-risk teens ages 14 to 22. Both of these programs provide the youth with a safe environment, food, clothing, educational and counseling services and advocacy. Most of the youth seek reunification with their family or a relative in a more stable home. Learning to communicate their feelings and concerns, in a healthy way, helps them navigate relationships at home, school and work. The new STRONG program, currently under construction, will provide a longer-term housing for the young mothers and homeless youth ages 16 to 22. The youth will have more support, onsite life-skills training and additional opportunities to develop independent living skills. Together, we can continue changing lives and brighten futures.
