I am one of the 554 on-site volunteers who provided 24,218 hours of care last year. There would be many more sick people in Fredericsburg if not for the caring volunteers in all capacities. The clinic provided 10,833 patient visits to 1,948 unduplicated clients. Ninety percent reported living at or below 123% of the Federal Poverty Level, which for a family of four is less than $27,940 annually.
Most of these clients are forever grateful and humbled by the willingness of caring volunteers. Most cannot express their gratitude enough and simply say "thank-you"

Mission: The mary washington hospital auxiliary (auxiliary) operates in support of mary washington hospital, inc. (mwh). Mwh operates an acute care hospital and is exempt from federal and state income taxes as a public charity under irc code 501(c)(3) and section 170(b)(a)(iii). The auxiliary functions to support the hospital through the provision of financial assistance as well as through its volunteer programs. Over the years of operations, the auxiliary and hospital have maintained a highly integrated working relationship.
Programs: Mwh's auxiliary had an active body of 381 volunteers for 2014. Auxiliary volunteers performed 58,626 hours in 49 established service areas. 96 junior volunteers, supported by mwha, contributed an additional 3,842 hours for a grand total of 62,945 hours. Services included:- patient escorts - upon admission and discharge- way finders - helping our visitors find their way and providing general information-clinical support - providing an extra set of hands to our clinical teams- waiting room ambassadors - keeping family members informed on their loved ones' progress- customer service in one of our retail outlets- and many other rewarding experiences. All services are performed with mwhc's mission, vision and values in mind. Each interaction focuses on providing compassion and service to patients, patients' family members, visitors and mwh associates. Among the many services provided:- waiting room ambassadors assisted families and loved ones of - 27,615 surgical patients (21,262 - main hospital; 6,353 fasc)- 6,114 icu patients- discharge services escorted 12,675 patients to their vehicles- 62,400 daily newspapers purchased by mwha and delivered to patient rooms - 1,908 floral arrangements delivered to patient rooms- 125 handmade quilts and baby blankets delivered to palliative care and nicu- 832 personalized baby bracelets made and mailed - two onsite meditation gardens maintained by mwha as a respite for weary visitors and staff
in addition to the many services provided, mwh auxiliary contributed $215,000 toward its multiyear pledge to benefit mwhc regional cancer center.
