General program service information marworth, a 501(c)(3) not for profit corporation, owns and operates a facility for alcohol and chemical detoxification and rehabilitation. Marworth provides services without regard to the patient's ability to pay. Marworth provides both inpatient and outpatient care at its 91-bed facility near scranton, in waverly, pennsylvania, which opened in 1982. The bed capacity increased from 77 to 91 in january 2006. On may 16, 2012 marworth celebrated its 30th anniversary with the dedication of a new dietary wing and fitness center. The 2. 2 million addition included a new 5,000 square foot dietary wing to better accommodate marworth patients. A vital program component of marworth is family treatment that provides education and counseling to family members, assuring the recovery and the well-being of the entire family unit. Marworth is operated in close cooperation with educational activities of geisinger clinic and hospital facilities of geisinger medical center and geisinger wyoming valley medical center. (4) specialized therapies and programs. Recreational therapy geisinger marworth's recreational therapy program features a low elements ropes course, fitness center and other experiential learning mediums. More than just exercise, rec therapy activities simulate a wide array of addiction recovery themes, such as group problem solving, learning to trust others, asking for help and confronting compulsive/impulsive behavior. Charity care the primary concern of marworth is the delivery of care to all, regardless of their ability to pay. The unreimbursed cost of charity care represents the cost that marworth incurs by providing free or discounted services to those who cannot afford to pay for services. The cost to marworth of providing this charity care and policy deductions during the fiscal year ended june 30, 2017 was 268 thousand. B. Other governmental in recognizing its mission to the community, marworth provides services to medicaid patients through act 152 and county programs. Marworth provides care, below cost, to persons covered by governmental programs. To the extent reimbursement is below the cost of providing health care, marworth is furthering its charitable mission to the entire community. The unreimbursed value of providing care to act 152/county patients during the fiscal year ended june 30, 2017 was 337 thousand. C. Other uncompensated patient services in addition to the above, marworth provides other patient services for which full payment is not received. The uncompensated cost of providing such patient services during the fiscal year ended june 30, 2017 was 34 thousand. Iii. Community health, education, and outreach marworth presents lectures and seminars that serve an educational purpose by informing the general public about substance abuse, one of america's major health problems. Marworth also provides educational opportunities, through its internship program for college students studying counseling and human services or related fields. The cost of the lectures and the cost of training interns during the fiscal year ended june 30, 2017 was 13 thousand. Iv. Research support marworth contributed 121 thousand to geisinger clinic to support its charitable mission through medical research activities at two facilities on the campus of the geisinger medical center: the siegfried and janet weis center for research (weis center) and the geisinger center for health research (gchr) during the fiscal year ended june 30, 2017. Weis center provides a focus for laboratory research and research training, and supports the clinical staff in its research programs. The primary mission of the weis center is to conduct original and innovative research that contributes new knowledge to biomedical science. This research center is home to the henry hood research program. The preeminent function of the hood research program is to conduct original and innovative research of world class quality. The center's scientists apply modern molecular and cellular approaches to diverse research problems in the areas of cardiovascular function, cancer and developmental biology. Gchr conducts health services, epidemiologic and population genetics research on the broad range of conditions typically seen in primary and specialty care settings. Gchr also investigates extramural resources for funding of clinical research. Together with the weis center, gchr is also building the capability for population-based genetics research. V. Community assistance payment marworth provided financial assistance to the community through community assistance payments at a cost of 23 thousand. This included a payment in lieu of real estate taxes being assessed on property that serves a charitable purpose.
