Mission: Mane stream's mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals with physical, developmental, emotional and medical challenges through adaptive horsemanship programs, equine assisted therapy and educational initiatives.
Programs: Mane stream's path certified riding instructors provided 43 weeks of adaptive riding lessons to riders with special needs to teach riding and horsemanship skills. We continue to offer private and semi-private lessons to ensure that each student receives customized lessons to help them achieve independence. Mane stream also hosts an inclusive summer camp that is doh approved. In 2017 we served 86 children over 8 one week sessions. Camp is open to special needs children and their typically developing peers. 3,005 volunteer hours were provided for adaptive riding and 3,010 for camp activities.
for over 45 years mane stream has provided equine assisted therapy and adaptive riding for children and adults with special needs. In 2017 we served 58 patients with 748 visits to our occupational, physical, or speech language therapists or our mental health counselor. Equine assisted therapy is our medical treatment program that provides intensive one-on-one therapy sessions with a licensed therapist utilizing the movement of the horse as a treatment strategy. The unique combination of an on-site clinic and the use of the horse provides a one of a kind therapy setting. We are grateful to the many volunteers who make our programs possible. During 2017, 275 volunteers provided 10,644 hours of assistance for our programs, of those hours, 1,933 were specifically for equine assisted therapies and activities.
take the reins (ttr) and horses for healing (h4h)- ttr provides equine assisted activities and horsemanship for veterans and h4h does similar work for individuals living with, recovering from and living life after cancer. Through our ttr program we served 50 veterans in five day trips. H4h also ran for 2 eight-week sessions and served 20 people. Both programs utilize horses as a way to build trust, strengthen connections, and empower participants to explore their own feelings and emotions creating pathways for healing. 285 volunteer hours were contributed for ttr and h4h.
