Mission: Luther Seminary is the largest of the eight seminaries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). It educates over 1/3 of the pastors in the ELCA and nearly ½ of its lay rostered professionals. About 15% of the Luther seminary students represent faith traditions other than Lutheran, with Methodists and Presbyterian students being the most common. In addition, 53 international students from 20 different countries study at Luther Seminary. The seminary believes that God is calling the church into apostolic mission in a world of many cultures and religions. Therefore, it seeks to prepare leaders who are rooted in the confessional heritage of the church in order to serve the 21st church flexibly and imaginatively. Luther Seminary also offers the most extensive program of continuing education and lifelong learning in the Lutheran Church. Literally thousands of pastors, laypeople and church professionals from many denominations take part in conferences, continuing education workshops and lay classes or use educational resources developed by the seminary.
