Causes: Chambers of Commerce & Business Leagues
Mission: Lowcountry local first cultivates an economy anchored in local ownership, because local-independent businesses are the foundation of our culture, economy, and character.
Programs: Good business: our good business initiative supports sustainable entrepreneurship and business development and is designed to foster and catalyze local, independent retailers, manufacturers, professional service providers, and more. This work includes: local works our collaborative coworking space providing affordable work space for entrepreneurs from multiple sectors; the good business summit which is an annual event with business leaders and advocates exploring innovative models for success, while at the same time creating a positive community impact; and general citizen awareness campaign around the importance of supporting those businesses rooted in our community. Good farming: supports sustainable agriculture and is designed to grow and connect our local food system by training new farmers, supporting existing farm businesses and educating consumers. This work includes: growing new farmers program which provides farmers and food system leaders foundational knowledge and training through a certificate in sustainable agriculture and optional apprenticeship placement program; farm support and consulting engages farmers at all stages in their operation as well as agricultural professionals providing support, workshops, resources, and a regional listserv; eat local month provides citizen awareness of what is available seasonally and how to access it.
