Causes: Health, Rehabilitative Care
Mission: Leg up therapeutic riding center uses equine assisted activities to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilites by promoting growth of physical, social, emotional and cognitive areas.
Programs: During 2017, we served individuals with disabilities. During this year we had approximately 45 active volunteers that served in the actual lessons as leaders and side walkers and assisted us in the facility development. Riders have shown improved mobility, attention span and self esteem. Our riders have also seen gains in their overall balance and rhythm. The horse provides the freedom to work in the areas of balance and rhythm without having to be concerned about bumping into or stumbling over something. We have earned a premier accredited center status through p. A. T. H. International. P. A. T. H. International promotes equine assisted activities and therapies for individuals with special needs. In 2017 we continued to mentor prospective p. A. T. H. Instructors by helping them develop instructional skills and obtaining their 25 hour supervision requirement. We currently have three p. A. T. H. Instructors. We have tried to inform our local communities about our services by dealing with the impact center, the local 4-h office, autism awareness, and participating in a giles county chamber of commerce event. Martin methodist college has provided interns from their federal work program that have assisted with administrative duties as well as some program assignments. We have also partnered with cedar hill pony club, nasville predators, and frito-lay. These companies have helped us in maintaining our organization's mission.
