Causes: International, International Development
Mission: LEAP is dedicated to enhancing and enriching the lives of people around the world by providing free, specialized medical and surgical services inspired by the love of Christ.
Results: Since 1991, LEAP has provided over 9,000 free surgeries and served 21 countries,
Target demographics: children in impoverished regions with craniofacial deformities such as cleft lip and palate
Direct beneficiaries per year: over 500 patients
Geographic areas served: Belize, India, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Zimbabwe, Jordan, Turkey
Programs: 1) Mission Program: we return to the same communities in Belize, Dominican Republic, Haiti, India, and Zimbabwe that have come to trust and rely upon LEAP to offer ongoing care to children with otherwise unmet surgical needs and to continue care for those who require long-term medical treatment. 2) Landmark Program: Through a partnership with Medical City Children’s Hospital in Dallas, LEAP provides extensive, high-quality medical and surgical care to underserved children with such severe craniofacial issues that long-term treatment in their home countries is not feasible. We also arrange their travel to the U.S. and host families to provide a loving environment between surgeries and while they heal. 3) International Disaster Relief Program: We partner with the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) to form ISAPS-LEAP Surgical Relief Teams©, a global resource that can quickly deploy highly skilled plastic and reconstructive surgeons to areas hit by natural or man-made disasters. Patients receive care across the full surgical spectrum, including traumatic blast and gunshot wounds to upper and lower extremities, hands and face.
