Mission: League of hope works to alleviate poverty in haiti by focusing on educational inititives and building partnerships working with agriculture, water and sanatation, and medicine. League of hope believes development through education is of primary importance to enable haiti to lift itself from poverty. League of hope designs all programs for sustainability and eventual self-management by haitians.
Programs: In 2014, league of hope (loh) focused on several areas of relief and development in haiti. Loh continued to support the three agriculture technical assistance stations located in haiti, and continued to expand the us-based network of experts providing technical assistance to agronomists in haiti. In addition, the league of hope soil testing facility, located on the central plateau of haiti, continued to expand in scale, and now performs about 50 soil tests per month. Loh trained a second technician to run the soil tests by bringing a haitian agronomist to athens, georgia-based environmental services laboratory, under the guidance of university of georgia personnel. Loh provided periodic maintenance checks of the high-quality water purification system at the nova school in port au prince that was rebuilt after the earthquake. This system continues to provide safe drinking water to several hundred students and their families. Loh continues to support a micro-finance program on the island of la gonave, which provides loans of up the $300us for entrepreneurs on the island, and provides business guidance. Loh also continues to support the tuberculosis ward at the general hospital in port au prince, which typically houses about 25 patients under the care of dr. Megan coffee.
