Programs: The tanf (temporary assistance for needy families) program emergency funds seeks to implement a summer employment program for low-income youth. Thorugh these funds, missouri's youth will be provided the opportunity to gain valuable work experience to prepare for tomorrow's careers. The following outlines the tanf program emergency funds summer youth program activities:outreach, recruitment, eligibility, enrollment, participant orientation, assessment, worksite development, service management, supportive services, performance, follow-up, monitoring, allocations/contracting, maintenance of effort, obligations/expenditures and references.

the wia (workforce investment act) youth activities program seeks to increase attainment of basic skills, work readiness or occupational skills, and secondary diplomas or other credentials of wia participants. This is accomplished through the delivery of the following activities:objectively assess academic levels, occupational skills levels, service needs(i. E. , occupational, prior work experience, employability, interests, aptitudes), and supportive service needs of each participant;develop service strategies that identify an employment goals, achievement objectives, and the appropriate services needed to achieve the goals and objectives for each participant; and provide post-secondary education preparation, linkages between academic and occupational learning, preparation for unsubsidized employment opportunities, and effective connections to intermediaries with strong links to the job market and local and regional employers. Additional activities can include, but are not limited to, the following:tutoring, study of skills training, and instruction leading to completion of secondary school, including dropout prevention strategies; alternative secondary school services; summer employment opportunities that are directly linked to academic and occupational learning; paid and unpaid work experience, including internships and job shadowing; occupational skills training; leadership development opportunities, including community service and peer-centered activities encouraging responsibility and other positive social behaviors; supportive services; adult mentoring for a period of participation and a subsequent period, for a total of not less than 12 months; follow-up services; comprehensive guidance and counseling, including drug and alcohol abuse counseling and referral.

the wia (workforce investment act) subtitle b adult program seeks to improve employment, retention, and earnings of wia participants and increase their educational and occupational skill attainment, thereby improving the quality of the workforce, reducing welfare dependancy, and enhancing national productivity and competitiveness. This is accomplished through the delivery of the following activities:core services: eligibility determination; outreach, intake and orientation to available information and services; initial assessment of skill levels, aptitudes, abilities and supportive services needs; career counseling; job search and placement assistance; provision of employment statistics and job information; provision of performance information on eligible providers of training services, youth activities, and adult education; provision of information on local area performance; provision of information on availability of supportive services; provision of information regarding filing unemployment insurance (ui) claims; assistance in establishing eligibility for welfare to work activities and programs of financial assistance for training and education programs; follow-up services including counseling for individual placed into unsubsidized employment for at least 12 months following placement. Intensive services:specialized assessments including diagnostic testing, in-depth interviewing, and evaluation; development of employment plan; group counseling; individual counseling and career planning; case management; pre-vocational services, including workplace behavior skills training. Training services:occupational training; on-the-job-training (ojt); skill upgrading; entrepreneurial training; job readiness training; adult literacy; customized training. Other services:customized screening and referral; supportive services, including needs related payments.
