parent program:strengthen parental skills in a broad range of areas, enhancing their understanding of conditions and syndromes affecting their children, how to tackle behavior issues, through lectures, training sessions, both in groups as well as through personal sessions with volunteer psychologists.
advocacy and training for volunteers and in service training for university students, primarily those enrolled in occupational therapy courses (keiser university, florida international university, miami-dade college). Volunteers and students are trained to support the general program (saturdays) and the zoo porgram (life skills development program) undertaken during weekdays. In addition, they are given motivational training sessions to contribute to reduce discrimination suffered by persons with special needs from society at large.
the foundation board members have extensive international networks and work, during which, their role in the foundation, gives the background to advocate in various countries and continents for changes in attitudes towards persons with special needs and reduced discrimination. The president of the board also serves as unicef goodwill ambassador, and the secretary to the board also serves in the board of directors of special olympics international.
