Mission: To engage exclusively in charitable, educational, and social purposes for the benefit of farmworkers and other low-income persons as permitted under 501(c)3 of the internal revenue code.
Programs: Member services lupe provides critical services to immigrants and working families to help them build better lives by stretching their limited resources to the greatest extent possible by offering valuable social services at moderate cost and/or by improving their individual skills in one or more of our self-development classes (esl, ged. Citizenship, etc. ). In 2016 lupe staff prepared 650 daca applications and 690 applications for us citizenship, among many other critical services. Our income tax services prepared and submitted tax returns that generated more than $2 million dollars in refunds for those families. We also initiated a new program called health on wheels. The program coordinates mobile health clinic visits to low-income communities across hidalgo county for residents who are challenged to travel long distances to fixed-base clinics. The program also conducts monthly health talks to educate local residents about important health issues like diabetes, obesity, and mosquito-borne diseases.
civic engagement and community development lupe continues to work with community leaders in more than 50 rural communities to develop their natural leadership skills. Those leaders become advocates for social change in their communities and mobilize their friends and neighbors to support policy changes that impact their communities with regard to health and well-being, safety and security, and educational equity.
