Causes: Economic Development
Mission: To be an advocate and agent for local and regional planning and economic growth. To support and expand the capabilities of local, municipal and county government development.
Programs: Planning - kvcog provides educational, training, and advisory services to governmental agencies, boards, and committees in the areas of transportation, solid waste, environment, and land use and also provides gis mapping services in support of these planning activities. Kvcog achieved the following in this area of its exempt purpose operations: -assisted over 35 towns with land use questions, ordinance amendments or board procedures/forms etc. -assisted multiple towns with solar farm, wind power and medical marijuana ordinances -assisted multiple communities with updating of shoreland zoning maps -town planner by contract -local and multi-town training on board procedures, development review -completion of full comprehensive plan and several new ordinances -downtown planning and economic development planning -coastal zone projects in communalities regarding flooding resiliency, stormwater and river based development projects kvcog provided assistance with mapping and demographic information on request from twelve (12) municipalities. In addition, kvcog provided regional mapping and demographic information services for regional economic development and transportation plans, the kvcog website, and census liaison/information management. This work included: -annual update of community demographic profiles -targeted demographic analyses with gis - economy, seniors, etc. -offering gis facilities and capabilities - census data integrated, tax parcel digitization, site suitability analysis and visual impact assessment now available. -conversion of archive maps to digital form
economic and community development kvcog provides economic and community development services relating to investments in municipal infrastructure, workforce development, shared services, training, and business retention, expansion and attraction. Kvcog provided economic development assistance to the towns of benton, china, chelsea, gardiner, madison, vassalboro, waterville, winslow, winthrop kvcog also provided economic and community development services to: -the towns of anson, bingham, china, madison, rome, skowhegan, starks and st. Albans for services related to investments in municipal infrastructure through broadband planning. -the towns of benton, pittsfield, skowhegan, waterville and winslow for assistance with business expansion -the towns of benton, sidney and winslow for assistance with infrastructure and workforce development -the town of unity for tourism related economic and community development assistance, the city of augusta related to rail infrastructure economic and community development assistance. -the towns of belgrade, cambridge, chelsea, china, hallowell, madison, rome, sidney, waterville, and vassalboro for community development assistance
revolving loan fund (rlf) kvcog provides business finance and business counseling services to private sector organizations in furtherance of its goals to promote increased public and private sector investment and job retention and job creation. Rlf is a key component of our economic development program. At june 30,2017, kvcog had 22 active loans with a total principal value of 1,984,033. As of 6/30/17, we had about 1,248,000 available to lend. Since 1997, kvcog has made 219 loans for a total dollar amount of 15,548,261. Our loans have leveraged 67,141,211 in private sector and other public funds, and we have helped to create and retain 3,814 jobs in kennebec, somerset and western waldo counties.
