In November of 2021, we lost our heart dog Belisama. She was our first dog, and she was like no other. A year or two before that, I started following K.A.R.M.A. On Facebook, knowing that we would one day be interested in another Keeshond, and also know in that we’d like to adopt.
In February of 2022, still mourning our Bel, K.A.R.M.A. Took in 6 young guys from a puppy mill, Keeshond/American Eskimo crosses. I filled out an application, figuring it would take some time to here back, and probably lots of people were vying for these dogs.
Somewhat to my surprise, we were contacted quickly, and interviewed via Zoom for suitability. The dogs were an hour away, so we went to meet Butch Cassidy, and brought him home on Spring Equinox. He’d never been in a house before, and he was very frightened, but we had lots of support, and rolled out our best patience.
Renamed Pippin (Butch Cassidy being a big name for a happy little dog), he let us know over the long hot summer that he would love a doggy companion, so we adopted Baylor, a 5 & 1/2 yo bundle of love, who’s name suits him perfectly.
This morning they are sleeping on cool concrete and shedding as only Keeshonds can. We adore them, and are grateful for the extremely dedicated volunteers who offer a second chance to some pretty wonderful dogs, and help a lot of humans to provide good homes to those dogs.
Denise and all of her friends at K.A.R.M.A. are truly amazing! We got our 1-year-old dog, Oscar, transported to us from VA to FL on Easter holiday weekend by a dedicated group of volunteers she had organized. They drove straight through to deliver him to us that Easter evening so our little 3-year-old could meet him before she went to bed. He came with all his vet records, shots, toys, chewies, tags, crate, food, heartworm, flea and tick meds, microchip registration, and blankets. Denise thought of everything! We couldn't be happier with our little man. He's gorgeous, and fits into our family perfectly. I was nervous about adopting sight unseen, but Denise described him accurately to us and was very honest about his needs. She was communicative thoughout the process and answered all my questions. I would 1,000% recommend this organization if you're wanting the perfect fur baby addition for your family. They go over and above the call of duty to match their dogs with the right family, even if they are a two-day drive away! They truly care about the people and dogs they serve! Best rescue group ever!
