I began volunteering at Karuna about six years ago, and I can’t say enough about how dedicated Candice and Paul and all the other volunteers are to help these wonderful souls return to a life of happiness and peace for the rest of their life. Each horse has a different care plan to individualized their needs. I wish I could give them 20 stars!❤️❤️❤️

Karuna Horse Rescue is dedicated to helping abused and neglected horses live out their lives in good health and peace. This organization accepts horses that other rescues won't, due to the horses' complex medical needs. The owners of Karuna Horse Rescue spend endless hours driving the horses to equine veterinary specialists for unique surgical and medical treatments and follow up with individualized dietary and rehabilitation plans for each horse to create unbelievable outcomes for each horse. The owners Paul and Candice Kratzer also mentor many volunteers in improving the care of horses in our society, and welcome youth groups such as the Boy Scouts of America to complete projects to earn advanced badges and develop leadership abilities.

Fantastic humans who have dedicated their lives for the well-being of these animals. These folks provide a permanent home and comfort for a neglected herd of horses. Cheers to their volunteers too who put in countless hours each year caring and helping the herd at Karun !

I've known Candice since the children were little, when motherhood, soccer and schoolwork were the main focus, not horses. Since the inception of Karuna Horse Rescue, I have been continually amazed at her dedication and spirit. Running a non-profit, especially for animals that require so much care and attention, is an extremely hard and demanding job, and Candice has given her heart and soul to this organization. With the huge increase in prices of hay, grain, and other essentials, I know that times are tough, but Candice continues on with a smile and a kind word for all of her charges. The horses live wonderful, carefree and cruelty-free lives, surrounded by loving people who share Candice's passion and vision. I am honored to know Candice, and to have watched what she has done to help some of the more unfortunate horses of Arizona. They remain unfortunate no more! Please help in any way that you can.

Karuna is a dedicated, no nonsense rescue that keeps the health and gentle care of its horses the sole focus. Nothing is overlooked, including costly veterinary treatment. The volunteers are well managed and appreciated. Karuna creates an efficient but safe and relaxed atmosphere for both horses and their keepers.

They are unconditionally committed to the well being of each rescue horse. Their love is deep.

Karuna, which means Compassion in Action, is the most caring nonprofit I have ever been involved with. All decisions are based in what is best for the individual horse, going far above and beyond what even most rescues would do to provide needed care. Every horse gets daily supplements tailored to their needs, has freedom of movement, and chooses his/hers own favorite equine companions. Candace and Paul have built this from scratch, doing all the cactus clearing, etc themselves. And Candace is as kind to the volunteers as she is to the horses, always appreciative, gentle and encouraging with any instruction, respecting each volunteer’s physical limitations, and modeling for volunteers that no work is grunt work, as Candace and Paul do all daily tasks themselves, right alongside volunteers. My weekly hours there are the most joyful of each week.

I have volunteered for a few years with them and can honestly say every penny goes straight where it is intended. They offer a wonderful and desperately needed service. Additionally, they involve and mentor young people in everything they do.

So thankful to have found Karuna Horse Rescue (and Candice and Paul). What a truly peaceful forever place for horses who have suffered. They go above and beyond to provide medical care, nutrition, exercise, grooming, and most of all Love to all the horses. As a volunteer, I have witnessed the transformation of what love and care can do for these sweet souls that have been given up on. Candice and Paul work tirelessly to provide everything necessary to care for the horses and I encourage folks to visit and consider sponsoring a horse or donating time and/or money to help with expenses.

Karuna is a wonderful rescue and a very special place for horses to live their best horse life for the remainder of their lives. The rescue is clean, safe and horses are treated with compassion and loving care.

Karuna is amazing! A rescue that ensures dignity and a forever home. I love being here and apart of doing something amazing. This is a wonderful rescue! I volunteer there regularly and I see the HORSES go from poor condition to happy and healthy. Each horse is treated individually with loving care. Candice and Paul are compassionate, loving, intelligent founders of this wonderful rescue. I highly recommend it.

Her name is Nina, and she is now living free at Sacred Spirits Sanctuary because of Candace and Paul. I found Nina on Craigslist, two days before Christmas, obviously terribly neglected and in bad shape, with overgrown hooves; and after reaching out to the rescue community, Karuna was the only facility that unconditionally agreed to step up and get her - immediately - and brought her to Karuna the day after Christmas. With Candace's non-confrontational and persistent but gentle demeanor, Nina's battered soul and body received the attention, care and love she needed and deserved. And in February, Nina and a companion were taken to Sacred Spirits and set free.

This is what most concerned people would hope for and expect from a rescue facility. Karuna's care for their rescues is evidenced in the outstanding love for, and care and condition of their horses; and in the devotion of their volunteers and those people who know them and the outstanding work Candace and Paul do. Knowing that my donations are going to better their mission gives me tremendous peace of mind. They are worth every red cent - and more.

These people and those that join them in these wonderful acts of pure love are angels on earth!! We've never met but I follow u everyday and admire you all!

I was lucky enough to actually visit this wonderful horse rescue a few months ago and I was extremely impressed with the owners and the volunteers who make it their mission is to care for and to give these beautiful horses the freedom to enjoy their life without restraints and requirements. Their selfless dedication is truly humbling. Lucky is the horse that gets to be in their care.

This is an incredible rescue organization with the most passionate people running the rescue making a difference in the lives of horses that need help to survive!!

I have started volunteering my time at Karuna and couldn't be more proud of an organization I am apart of. The quality of care is top notch and the love that is given to each horse that comes in is amazing. Hours and hours of time spent on each horse working to gain trust.

I have recently started volunteering with Karuna and I am so impressed with the level of care for the horses! I have spent many years working with equine rescues, assisting in animal cruelty cases and helping care for horses that have been rescued from abuse and neglect. Everyone involved with Karuna definitely has the horses best interest at heart and is willing to work tirelessly to ensure that these horses are all happy, healthy and loved beyond measure for the rest of their lives.
