Causes: Animals, Bird Sanctuaries, Protection of Endangered Species, Wildlife Preservation & Protection, Wildlife Sanctuaries
Mission: We rescue wild black cockatoos in distress – having been shot, struck by vehicles, fallen, pulled from their nests, or attacked by ravens, cats, or other birds – and rehabilitate them at Kaarakin, our Perth Hills site, before releasing back into the wild.
Target demographics: endangered native wild black cockatoos
Direct beneficiaries per year: 230 birds rescued, 47 released to rejoin wild flocks
Geographic areas served: Perth and the southern region of Western Australia
Programs: care and rehabilitation of injured black cockatoos for their eventual reintroduction to the wild, research of black cockatoo feeding, habits and habitat, public education and awareness of related issues
