I have been a member of the Jewish Womens Foundation of New York for the past five years. It an empowering organization of women who focus on funding through a gender lens. Members have the opportunity to be decision makers around grant making- start- ups, metropolitan and Israel, programing, education & advocacy. Each person's voice counts. There is a diverse aged group of participants who are welcoming and encouraging. I am so proud of being a member and the work we do.
It is amazing to see the impact the Foundation has had in just the past few years. We find and support the organizations and social entrepreneurs who are meeting pressing needs facing women and girls. Right now, our work is helping tens of thousands of women and girls around the world and in turn, we are increasing opportunities for all. The Jewish Women's Foundation of New York is one of the best kept secrets in NYC and the Jewish community! This participatory grantmaking organization gives every single woman, no matter her background, experience, or capacity, the opportunity to learn about grantmaking and develop her philanthropic voice. There are women from all walks of life from NY's elite to college students and everyone in between. I love being a part of JWFNY!
Being a part of the Jewish Women's Foundation has had a major impact on my life in a way I never would have anticipated. I'm really not an organizational type--I tend to speak my mind and talk directly about issues about which I care deeply and I don't have much patience for people with limited openness to hearing other perspectives. But I have found that in my 6 years of being with women that care deeply and are very thoughtful, we have been able to do some incredibly powerful work together and make change that makes me feel very proud to be a part of this organization. This is a place that really provides a platform to change the lives of women and girls and of their families. I have facilitated meetings, and programs that were the products of lively and challenging discussions and have seen the positive effects these interactions have had on the people who attend. There's so much to do and so many ways to work on important issues with really impressive women.
Jewish Women's Foundation of NY is a unique place to meet like-minded, fabulous women who want to make the whole world a better place. We learn together, challenge norms and question how we can make a difference in NYC and Israel. Your presence, opinions and votes matter in a way that truly makes an impact.
This nonprofit provides an incredible opportunity to engage in hands on grant making, which has increased my knowledge on the impact of gender based philanthropy as well as strategic funding. The organization attracts bright, committed and compassionate women which adds to the overall positive experience.
I have participated in the New York Grantmaking Committee for several years and have found the process to be thoughtful, engaging, and a catalyst for social change. Through our work, I have learned more about gender issues through the lens of the not for profit community and have also learned how to be a more professional funder of social causes. It's been an enriching experience!
The JWFNY is extra special. The organization raises substantial dollars annually and members have the opportunity to directly influence decisions about which organizations are considered for grants and whether and how much the organizations receive. The processes used are clear and frequently reviewed for possible improvement. The leadership is top notch, highly professional, actively in touch with members and highly responsive to their input. This organization is on top of its game and on the leading edge of how to impact and improve the not-for-profit arena.
I am honored to be associated with an organization that is thoughtful, innovative and has a true commitment to social justice values. Yasher Koach!
Working with The Jewish Women's Foundation of New York has been one of the most rewarding not-for-profit experiences I have ever had. The Foundation is made up of women of all ages, bright and pro-active, all of whom want to learn about and support projects that help women and girls throughout the New York area and beyond and do it with a Jewish bent. Its funding fills a niche in Jewish philanthropy by targeting smaller but innovative projects that might well be overlooked by larger foundations but serve their communities in big ways. Here is a truly unique organization that supports big ideas for social change in an environment that is very personal. I give it all stars.
