Mission: Bicycle indiana promotes safe bicycling; educates bicyclists, motorists, and policy-makers; and advocates for laws, policies, and infrastructure to increase bicycling in indiana.
Programs: With funding in part (80%) by a grant from the indiana state department of health:promote: produce and distribute 40,000 copies of bicycle indiana resource guide. The guide contains safety and education information, including indianas laws for bicyclists, ride information, trail resources and more. The guide is distributed to members, independent bicycle dealers, indiana rest areas/welcome centers and cvbs (convention and visitors bureaus)distributed over 10,000 pieces of education & safety literature free of charge to police departments, schools, fire departments, and youth organizations throughout indiana:bicycling is fun; kids safety brochure: 3,126coloring book (safety): 2,855indiana law card in english & spanish: 2,523safe bicycling in indiana: 1,596share the road; adult safety brochure: 1,690developed and printed active transportation indiana guidebook to help citizens understand the needs and processes of developing bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. Hosted statewide bicycle summit in bloomington indiana. Developed and shared via social media digital story book focused for adult drivers on sharing the road with bicyclists. With grant funding from the indiana criminal justice institute. Developed a series of public service announcements for the drivers in the know program to air in northern indiana (highest percentage of bicycle/motor vehicle collisions and fatalities) in april and may. Worked with safe kids elkhart county on bike safety programs.
