I got involved with Impact Teen Drivers almost 5 years ago (at the very beginning of the organization!) because I lost friends to car crashes in high school. I helped in the office before I moved away from the headquarters city. I still help at community events, such as at high school presentations, safety fairs, and education conferences that are around my area. The Impact Teen Drivers staff and volunteers are so incredibly energetic and dedicated to the cause! I have stuck around for so long because I work with people who care about saving lives and who are passionate about reaching out to teens about the most dangerous thing they do- drive. Executive Director Kelly Browning is so, so motivated and creative on how to continue to be relevant and fresh where many non-profits become stagnant. Education Outreach Coordinator Martha Tessmer lost her son to reckless and distracted driving. She is incredibly inspirational to both the volunteers/staff and the teens and parents she interacts with. I have learned so much about running a non-profit, public relations, and just life as a whole from all the staff/volunteers. I know I have changed lives and driving behaviors while working with Impact Teen Drivers!

Causes: Disaster Aid, Safety Education
Mission: Impact teen drivers fund provides awareness, education, and training to teens, parents, first responders, educators, and health professionals regarding the dangers of reckless and distracted driving.
Programs: Education: impact teen drivers develops and promotes evidence-based education and strategies to save lives and reduce injuries caused by reckless and distracted driving. Our vision is to create a widespread culture shift among teens and their influencers where reckless and distracted driving are recognized as unacceptable behaviors and outside of the norm. Through consistent and powerful impact teen driver education efforts, teens, parents, community members will gain a true understanding of the connection between careless decisions behind the wheel and the consequences of being involved in a car crashwhether as a driver or passenger. It is our vision that this change in culture and mindset will significantly reduce the number of teens and others injured and killed as the result of reckless and distracted driving. We never use gore or graphic depictions, instead we engage, education, and empower through our evidence-based curricula.
advocacy and education: impact teen drivers connects and encourages stakeholder participation in developing and utilizing the impact teen drivers evidence-based programs and materials. More specifically, our goal is to encourage first responders, educators, health professionals, teen leaders, parents, community members, and safety advocates to facilitate a multifaceted approach using our programs in order to effectively educate people about the dangers of poor decision making behind the wheelwhether as a driver or a passenger.
research: impact teen drivers will design and implement quality program evaluation and supporting research studies to measure effectiveness of our programs and components, as well as facilitate other research opportunities for supporting teen safe driving efforts which may further our mission.
