Causes: Ethnic & Immigrant Centers, Human Services, Immigration
Mission: Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) was founded in 1979 by Bill Ong Hing to ensure that the human rights of newly arrived Americans are protected so that eventually they can become citizens and full participants in our democracy.
Programs: The US legal system is complex to navigate. Most service organizations do not have the expertise to assist low-income immigrants in legal matters. ILRC provides 18 seminars on 13 topics, training over 800 nonprofit personnel and attorneys in the areas of immigration law such as naturalization, deportation defense, ethics, and Delayed Enforced Departure ($99,640). It also trains nonprofit staff people in basic immigration law and basic deportation hearing skills ($75,000). One of ILRCs recent accomplishments was having, over the past five years, its National Immigrant Paralegal Training Project train over 1,200 nonprofit staff people.
