I became involved with Houston Dog Park Association after the grand opening of a dog park that's near my house, which I go to as often as I can. This dog park grand opening was sponsored by HDPA, and I was impressed to see the dedication of the members and their committment to dogs and improving the welfare of dogs. After the event, I started going to board meetings, and got more involved as a volunteer, doing things like representing the organization at various dog-related events throughout the city. After a few months, I indicated I would be interested in being on the board, and a few months later, I was voted to be a board member!
Review from Guidestar
The organization has come back from near dissolution in the last two years and the amazing new board is working hard to make dog parks safe and fun for everyone. Goals for 2011 are to develop the board and committees structure further, to increase membership 200% and to implement a strong education program at the dog parks around Houston. HDPA is also working to develop a northwest area dog park. I am proud to be a member and a board member so I can support dog park development and directly help make Houston a more dog friendly city.
