Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Homeless & Housing, Housing & Shelter, Housing Development, Construction & Management

Mission: Housing for People, Inc. (HOPE) came into being in 1989 when the last local church in Hood River that was willing to serve the homeless was forced to close its doors to the homeless due to security reasons. The pastor of that church called community meetings to discuss the increasing problem of homelessness in the community. Out of those public meetings HOPE was born. A pledge walk and fund-raiser was organized and enough money was raised for HOPE to apply for its non-profit status, that status was granted on Jan 2, 1990. HOPE's mission is to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing and to address other community development needs for people in the Mid-Columbia region.
