Programs: "hospicelink" provides a wide variety of services to the general public and to health care professionals, including: a nationwide toll-free telephone information and support service; referrals to local hospices, palliative care programs and bereavement support groups; a website with current information about evidence-based "best practices" in end-of-life care, including the entire 387 page text of "notes on symptom control in hospice & palliative care," (a definitive textbook); various written educational and informational booklets and publications for distribution; and cooperative programs with libraries, churches, schools and colleges, and not-for-profit welfare and community organizations.

the "cooperative education program" organizes and supports educational seminars and conferences on topics relating to end-of-life subjects, often in cooperation with local and regional hospice and palliative care programs, primarily directed to teaching health and caring professionals who work in any capacity with dying patients and bereaved families.

our "small gift fund" makes immediate gifts to needy hospice and palliative care patients and their families, with the goal of improving their quality of life. Most gifts are requested and awarded in cooperation with local hospice and palliative care programs, nationwide. Gifts, which can be awarded for any legitimate non-medical purpose or service, require only a simple application form, and are processed within two business days of receiving the request.

"the hospice bookshelf" publishes and distributes textbooks and other educational media on a variety of topics relating to end-of-life care. Published textbooks include "notes on symptom control in hospice & palliative care" by peter kaye, "hospice in-patient design manual" by timothy moorhouse and "children's hospice design manual" by timothy moorhouse, plus other informative and educational booklets and dvds. Gifts of such items are made, primarily to students in the health care fields, and to libraries. "ad hoc consulting and advisory services" are provided, without charge, to assist local hospices and palliative care programs seeking advice and assistance on issues relating to their work in their communities, and to support individuals and groups seeking to expand the availability of hospice and palliative care in their localities.
