Adunu maleng pa yesu society, inc. Dba sacred heart seminary is a minnesota non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. Program services for 2014 addressed the needs of the people in the archdiocese of gulu, uganda. Two main areas of emphasis were the secondary schools we have been supporting for years: sacred heart seminary in gulu and archbishop flynn secondary school in pader. A secondary school in uganda has 6 grade levels (senior 1 through 6). It can be compared to a junior high and a high school combined in the united states. The government of uganda has made a commitment to its people to provide primary education (grades 1-8) to all children but does nothing about secondary education. The government encourages ngos (non government organizations)to build and maintain the secondary schools. The catholic church has answered this call with the building of archbishop flynn secondary school and many others throughout uganda. Some parishes (of which there are 25 in the archdiocese of gulu)also have primary schools. Education of our youth is a challenge we take very seriously. Not only is it an opportunity to give spiritual direction for the salvation of their immortal souls but it also prepares them for leadership roles in the communities in which they live. Sacred heart seminary is a secondary school with approximately 150 young men discerning if god is calling them to be priests. It is a boarding school. All students live in dorms at the school. After completing their 6 years at the seminary some of these men choose or are accepted by the church to go on for 5 years of philosophy and 4 years of theology at on or two of the national seminaries in uganda before being ordained priests. At any given time we will have 40 plus young men in the major seminaries preparing for ordination. The young men who choose not to pursue a priestly vocation will move on to fill other occupations in their communities. Our support for sacred heart seminary includes tuition assistance to students, funds to pay for operating expenses, and repairs and renovations to the buildings. Archbishop flynn secondary school was founded in 2007 and currently has 440 students in 5 grade levels. This is also a boarding school with all students living in dorms in the school. The students recently tested in the top 8% of all secondary students tested throughout uganda on academic achievement. We plan to add the final grade next year, as we approach the planned capacity of 720 students. Our support for archbishop flynn secondary school includes tuition assistance to students, funds to pay for operating expenses, and funds to pay for the construction of new buildings for classrooms and dorms for the growing student population.
