Results: To date, Hope Abounds Cancer Network has achieved significant results in its mission to serve the needs of children and adults diagnosed with cancer and undergoing active treatment. Founded in 2009 by Kenny and Elizabeth Barnes, the organization emerged from their personal experience when their daughter was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 32. They recognized the lack of practical and logistical support available to patients and their families, inspiring them to establish Hope Abounds with a focus on providing comprehensive assistance and services for those fighting cancer in North Carolina and South Carolina. Through a service-aligned approach, Hope Abounds offers support to cancer patients and their families through three crucial avenues: education, navigation, and advocacy. In the area of education, the organization conducts programs and webcasts that promote awareness about genetic risks and various cancer-related issues. By empowering patients and families with knowledge, Hope Abounds seeks to enhance their understanding of the disease, potential risks, and treatment options. Patient Advocates play a vital role in offering personalized support throughout the cancer journey. These advocates engage with patients during screenings, diagnoses, treatment, and aftercare. Their assistance extends to facilitating communication with medical providers, insurance companies, and employers, ensuring patients receive the necessary support to navigate the complexities of their treatment. To provide comfort and care during treatments and hospital stays, Hope Abounds offers care packages filled with personal and comforting items. These thoughtful packages aim to alleviate some of the stress and discomfort associated with cancer treatment, promoting a more positive experience for patients. Additionally, Hope Abounds provides patient resource notebooks to help patients keep track of all medical papers and records, streamlining their ability to manage their treatment and health-related information. Each year, the organization has helped more than 500 families through its strategies of education, navigation, and advocacy. Geographic areas served: We primarily serve eastern counties along I-95, but are dedicated to supporting all 100 counties in North Carolina and nationwide.
